In short
  • Viktor Gyokeres admits frustration over limited playing time at Arsenal amid transfer speculation.
  • He has managed just 207 minutes this season without a goal or assist, as Mikel Arteta prioritises Kai Havertz.
  • Speculation grows that Gyokeres could seek a move if playing opportunities remain limited ahead of January.

Viktor Gyokeres has openly expressed his frustration over limited playing time at Arsenal amid swirling transfer speculation, casting fresh doubts over his future at the Premier League giants. The Swedish striker, who arrived from Sporting CP in the summer of 2025 for a staggering £64 million, burst onto the scene last season with 21 goals, securing his spot as Arsenal’s top scorer during their title-winning campaign.

Despite that impressive haul, Gyokeres finds himself sidelined this season as manager Mikel Arteta shifts focus to Kai Havertz as the club’s primary centre forward. Arsenal’s decision not to reinforce the striker position during the summer transfer window left Havertz and Gyokeres as the sole options following Gabriel Jesus’s high-profile move to Barcelona. This tactical preference has seen Gyokeres struggle for consistent minutes on the pitch, managing just 207 minutes without registering a goal or assist in the current campaign.

After contributing to Sweden’s 2-1 victory over Romania, Gyokeres addressed the mounting rumours about his Arsenal status with a candid acknowledgment of his predicament. “Of course, there was a lot of speculation. But I had a full pre-season, and it felt good. I was fully focused on Arsenal,” he told reporters. On his current role, he admitted, “Of course, it’s frustrating, no matter where you are. You always want to be on the pitch and make a contribution, score goals. It can be frustrating at times, but I just try to do my best when I get the chance and focus on what I can control.”

Reflecting on last season’s success, Gyokeres highlighted the significance of Arsenal’s Premier League triumph after a 22-year drought. “It felt good last season; we won the league and did well in all the other competitions too. Of course, we could have won another title, but winning the Premier League after a 22-year wait is certainly something to be proud of,” he stated.

As January’s transfer window approaches, speculation intensifies that Gyokeres could seek a move if playing opportunities remain limited. The Swedish forward’s situation poses a strategic dilemma for Arsenal, balancing squad harmony with the need for competitive striker options. Gyokeres’s candid remarks underscore the simmering tension inside the club and signal potential upheaval in the Gunners’ attacking ranks ahead of the new year.
