Justin Rose does not hold back when it comes to commenting on Jon Rahm’s situation in the DP World Tour. The renowned English golfer and former Masters champion shared his views on his Spanish colleague, who has decided not to accept the conditions imposed by the DP World Tour to achieve conditional status and compete on the circuit. Rahm, who made the controversial choice to join LIV Golf in 2024, now faces consequences that could jeopardize his participation in the Ryder Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf.

During a press conference ahead of the upcoming Players Championship, Rose did not hesitate to address Rahm’s situation. “I would like to see Jon — how many players? Eight? The other seven accepted. So, there is a pretty reasonable precedent that what was proposed to him wasn’t that outrageous,” Rose stated. He did not hold back in his criticism, emphasizing the need for Rahm to resolve his financial issues with the DP World Tour in order to be part of the European team in the Ryder Cup. “I would like to see Jon pay his fines, no doubt, and be part of the Ryder Cup. For me, the decision to play in LIV was a choice he made and wanted to make, and I respect that. He is playing excellent golf, earning a lot of money, and you can’t deny what he has achieved out there. So, I see this as a cost of doing business for Jon,” he added.

Rahm’s situation is complex, as to participate in the Ryder Cup, a player must hold a DP World Tour card, which implies competing regularly on the circuit. Rahm, who made his Ryder Cup debut in 2018 and participated again in 2021, 2023, and 2025, now sees his future in the competition at risk due to his refusal to accept the DP World Tour’s conditions.

Meanwhile, Justin Rose is preparing for the Players Championship, a tournament he considers one of the jewels of golf. “It’s always great to be back,” Rose said, reflecting on the evolution of the event over the years. “I feel like this tournament has evolved tremendously, to the point where you drive in and see the golf course unfolding before you. It always looks perfect. I feel like the character of the course has changed for the better over the years. It’s an inspiring place to walk and drive,” Rose expressed, visibly excited.

The Players Championship begins with the first round on Thursday, March 12. Despite having notable finishes in the tournament throughout his career, including a T4 in 2014 and a T8 in 2019, Rose is still seeking that elusive victory. This year, he has already participated in five PGA Tour events, winning the Farmers Insurance Open in January, but faced challenges in his last two outings, where he failed to make the cut at the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Tension is in the air, both for Rahm, who must quickly decide his future in European competitions, and for Rose, who is looking to shine at the Players Championship. The coming days promise to be decisive for both golfers.
