Justin Thomas, one of the most recognized names in American golf, is set to make his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour at the upcoming Arnold Palmer Invitational, taking place from March 5 to 8. Following an absence that has stretched since November, when he participated in the Procore Championship, Thomas now faces a new chapter in his career, marked by surgery that required months of recovery. The anticipation surrounding his return is palpable, especially after his recent performance in the TGL, where he proved he is getting back into shape.
During a recent press conference, following his participation in the TGL match against the Boston Common Golf Club, Thomas spoke about his experience and the challenges he will face. “A course is really like any other, adaptation is key,” he stated. “I think what I’ll find are many little things. I’ve been able to practice relatively normally for at least a month, but I will still encounter situations I haven’t experienced in a long time.” He highlighted the difficulty of dealing with the pressure of shots he hasn’t taken since his surgery, such as bunker shots, which he hasn’t done for about four months.
In his recent tournaments, Thomas faced difficulties, finishing in 69th place at the Procore Championship with rounds of 72, 70, 72, and 75. Last year, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, it was no different, with a performance that led him to a modest 36th place. Now, the expectation is that he can surpass these marks, especially after such a long break.
In addition to discussing his return, Thomas also commented on the performance of his team in the TGL, the Atlanta Drive GC, which recently won against the Boston Common Golf Club. “A win is a win,” he stated. Thomas noted that after spending more time watching games than playing, he has noticed that “it seems harder to make birdies” and that “the holes can be a bit longer.” He highlighted the complexity of the greens, which are fast and full of breaks, making the game even more challenging.
The Atlanta Drive GC, where Thomas plays alongside Patrick Cantlay and Chris Gotterup, has already secured three victories in the TGL this season, an encouraging sign for the golfer as he prepares for his return to the PGA Tour. What can we expect from Thomas at the Arnold Palmer Invitational? Will he be able to show that he is back to his best? The world of golf is eagerly awaiting this return, which could mark the beginning of a new era in the career of the talented golfer.
