After months of struggle and uncertainty, Rickie Fowler has decided to make a radical change to his equipment, a decision that is uncommon in golf but could be a game-changer in his career. The renowned player, known for his vibrant style and personality, has swapped out almost his entire golf arsenal, something that is sure to intrigue fans and experts of the sport. After all, what led this six-time champion on the PGA Tour to make such a drastic decision?

“I love testing new equipment, and this is not just a personal quest. I also like to understand how other variations work, like different irons and shafts. Interacting with other players is essential for my growth,” Fowler stated in an interview with GOLF.com. The player, who considers himself a true golf “nerd,” is determined to find the best equipment to maximize his performance.

After a disappointing 2025 season, in which he failed to secure a single title and only managed three top-10 finishes, Fowler decided it was time to change the game. In previous years, he had shown much superior performance, with one victory and eight top-10 finishes in 2022-2023, which makes the need for an overhaul of his equipment even more evident.

Ben Schomin, the tour operations director for Cobra, was responsible for evaluating every decision Fowler made during this process. Below, we present the significant changes that have been implemented in his equipment:

**Driver:** Cobra OPTM X (9° @9.7°, UST LIN-Q Powercore White 6-TX shaft) – A new head shape and a modified shaft to enhance efficiency and feel.

**Mini-Driver:** Cobra King Tec Mini (13.5° @12.8°, Mitsubishi Diamana WB 73 TX) – Customized for Fowler, with a delayed entry for testing.

**5-Wood:** Cobra King Tec Rail Proto (18° @ 17.7°, FF33 Setting: B3) – Replacing a previous model, this new 5-wood features rails for better sliding on the turf.

**Irons (4-PW):** Cobra 3DP RF (AeroTech SteelFiber 125cw shafts) – A more forgiving design, allowing for less penalizing mishits.

**Wedges:** Cobra SnakeBite 54V, King RAW 58D (reinforced), Cleveland RTZ 60° proto – With additional offset for greater visual appeal.

**Putter:** Scotty Cameron GoLo Center Shaft proto (2012 model) – Change made to improve feel during play.

**Ball:** 2021 Titleist Pro V1 – A return to this model for better performance in windy conditions.

This equipment overhaul has already begun to pay off, with Fowler achieving three top-25 finishes early in the season. The player showed robust performance, tying for 18th place at the American Express, followed by another 18th at the WM Phoenix Open and a 19th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, totaling winnings of over $475,000. He currently sits in 36th place in the FedExCup standings and 69th in the world ranking.

Fowler’s numbers in 2026 also reflect a significant improvement. He jumped to 31st in SG: Total, 20th in SG: Approach to Green, and 31st in SG: Putting, a big difference compared to 2025, when his performances were much less impressive. However, the season is still in its early stages, and it remains to be seen if he can maintain this momentum.

However, it is not just the equipment changes that concern Fowler. He revealed that during 2025, he struggled with shoulder bursitis, a condition that forced him to resort to pain medication and PRP injections. This health battle may explain his inconsistent form, despite some positive results towards the end of the season. “Bursitis causes fluid buildup in the shoulder, resulting in inflammation. I was using Advil to relieve the pain,” Fowler explained.

Recalling a similar episode in 2018, when he had to deal with an injury that forced him to withdraw from competitions, Fowler is now more focused on recovery. He has been training less, prioritizing quality over quantity, and has adapted his game and strategy to align with the equipment changes.

With all these changes, expectations are high to see how Rickie Fowler will evolve in the upcoming competitions. His determination and passion for the game are undeniable, and as he battles physical challenges, golf enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting to see if this new equipment can finally bring back his shine.
