He had already competed on the PGA Tour this season, finishing 61st at the Sony Open in Hawaii and 70th at The American Express. However, it was on the Champions Tour that he truly found his rhythm.
In emotional statements following his victory, Zach Johnson reflected on his achievement: “It’s humbling, it’s humbling just to get to this point. If you had told me I would be here at 50 years old, I would have thought you were crazy.” He continued, expressing his gratitude and excitement: “Staying in good shape to compete with these players is a challenge, as the level is extremely high and the course is phenomenal. I’m very excited and really pumped.”
The competition saw other heavyweights like Stewart Cink and Padraig Harrington in action, with Cink finishing tied for second place after a final round of 70. Harrington also had a solid performance, finishing tied for fourth place, in a display that highlights the competitiveness of the Champions Tour. Stephen Ames, for his part, secured 12th place with rounds of 71, 72, and 70.
