The 21-year-old impressed by reaching three consecutive quarter-finals in Masters 1000 tournaments, including the prestigious events in Indian Wells and Miami, before being eliminated by Carlos Alcaraz in Monte Carlo. However, a back injury forced Fils to withdraw from Roland Garros and to stay away from competitions during a critical period.
