The Indian Wells Open is about to kick off with a rollercoaster of emotions, and the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, is the undisputed star of this spectacle. The Spaniard, who boasts an impressive unbeaten record in 2026 after winning the Australian Open and the Qatar Open, once again emerges as the favorite to triumph in the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year. With two previous victories at the California event, Alcaraz is not only a strong contender but also a symbol of resilience in today’s tennis.

However, the competition is not without controversies. The participation of three seeds is in doubt due to a tense situation in the Middle East, where a conflict between Israel and the United States has resulted in logistical chaos directly affecting players who competed in the Dubai Tennis Championships. The situation escalated quickly, leading Iran to retaliate with attacks on American bases, including several in Dubai, resulting in the closure of airspace in the region.

Among those who managed to escape in time are Félix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Bublik, who are already on their way to California. However, Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov, and Andrey Rublev, all unable to leave their hotels in Dubai, continue to face uncertainties. The ATP issued a statement, saying it is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular contact with the players and their teams, ensuring that the health and safety of everyone is the top priority.

Medvedev, who has been a two-time runner-up at Indian Wells, is currently slated to be the 11th seed, while Khachanov and Rublev hold the 16th and 17th positions, respectively. If they are unable to arrive in time, the rankings will be adjusted, with players below them moving up the lists. Among those absent is Tallon Griekspoor, who withdrew from the final against Medvedev due to an injury and will also miss the ATP 1000 event.

The defending champion, Jack Draper, who has struggled to maintain form in recent months, will begin his title defense as the 14th seed. The seed draw for the Indian Wells Open features intriguing names, with Alcaraz at the top, followed by Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev, promising an electrifying tournament.
