Iga Swiatek, the dominant force in women’s tennis, is about to make a significant change in her career following a tumultuous period at the Sunshine Double. The recent separation from her coach Wim Fissette, with whom she won three titles, including the prestigious 2025 Wimbledon, has left many questions about the future of the young Polish player. Now, it seems that Swiatek is exploring new directions and possibilities, with a prominent name emerging as a potential replacement.

According to information revealed by Sport.pl, Swiatek is set to hold a training session with Francisco Roig at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. Roig, who was an integral part of Rafa Nadal’s team from 2005 to 2022, has been mentioned as a viable option for Swiatek’s coaching position. The legendary Nadal, an icon whom the Polish player has admired since childhood, reportedly recommended Roig, making the possibility of this partnership even more appealing for Swiatek.

“What I can say is that I have already asked the Academy if Iga Swiatek and I could have a training session when she arrives in Mallorca,” Roig stated, emphasizing his willingness to work with the current world number three. This move is not just a change of coach, but a deliberate strategy to help the athlete regain her form after an early exit at Indian Wells and a surprising first-round defeat at the Miami Open.

The departure of Fissette, although abrupt, is not a total surprise, as Swiatek and her team began looking for a new coach following her exit in Indian Wells. The need for quick results is pressing, especially with the clay season just around the corner. Swiatek is a player who has excelled on clay, having won 10 major titles, including four at the French Open, and she is determined to maintain that trajectory of success.

Meanwhile, Roig’s recent career has raised some questions. After leaving Nadal’s team, he took charge of Matteo Berrettini, but their collaboration ended in October 2024, and his brief stint as Emma Raducanu’s coach also did not yield the expected results. Following an early exit from the Australian Open, Raducanu parted ways with Roig in less than six months. Now, the pressure on Roig will be immense, as Swiatek demands results.

In addition to Roig, other names are being considered for the position. Joan Bosch, coach of Alexandra Eala, the most prominent Filipino tennis player, has also expressed interest. Bosch, who began coaching Eala in early 2025, believes that a Spanish approach could be beneficial for Swiatek. “In my opinion, a Spanish coach would be a good option for Swiatek. I agree that the goal should be to regain her natural playing style,” said Bosch, praising the qualities of the Polish player.

With the next stage of the season approaching rapidly, Swiatek is eager to turn her fortunes around in Europe. The Stuttgart Open, which begins on April 13, will be her first opportunity to shine again on clay. The pressure is on, but Swiatek’s determination and her recent strategic decisions may provide the boost she needs to get back on the path to victory.
