Jannik Sinner, the young star of Italian tennis, put on a display of confidence in his debut at the 2026 Indian Wells Masters 1000, where he eliminated Czech player Dalibor Svrcina with an impressive victory of 6-1, 6-1. In a press conference, the world number 2 shared his analysis of the match, revealing the intensity and rhythm that helped him secure the win relatively comfortably. “I felt like I started very well, that gave me the confidence to keep that intensity and rhythm going. We had never played against each other, so I had to understand a bit how his game was,” Sinner said, expressing satisfaction with his initial performance.

Reporters did not hesitate to recall the tennis player’s words during the Australian Open, where he expressed the need to diversify his game. “You should always improve in some way because everyone changes small details. It’s crucial to be present in every training session. I like the way we approach training and matches; it’s something I always admire. There are still aspects where I need to progress and feel more secure, but on the other hand, I’m very happy to compete and that’s the most important thing,” Sinner stated, demonstrating his determination to constantly evolve.

Tension mounted as the young athlete had to wait to find out who his next opponent would be, as at the time of the conference, Etcheverry and Shapovalov were still battling it out in the third set. “They are two completely different players, one right-handed and the other left-handed. I played against Denis at the US Open and it was a very tough match. I faced Tomas in Shanghai, and that was also complicated. It will be a difficult encounter, but I am happy to be back here, especially because last year’s tournament took place while I was out due to a suspension,” Sinner explained. He emphasized his desire to play good tennis, which is essential for securing victory.

Finally, Sinner will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who defeated the South American in the tie-break of the third set. With confidence high and determination strong, the Italian tennis player is ready to take on another exciting challenge in the tournament as he seeks to continue his path toward the title.
