Six tennis stars have confirmed their absence from the 2026 Canadian Open, including prominent names such as Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. The Canadian Open, officially designated as the National Bank Open, will take place from August 1 to 13, with the men's competition in Montreal and the women's in Toronto. This event is an ATP/WTA 1000 tournament, essential in the North American fast-court calendar. In 2025, Ben Shelton and Victoria Mboko won the men's and women's singles titles, respectively. However, Mboko is one of the six confirmed withdrawals for this year's edition due to a knee injury sustained during the Queen’s Club Championships.

In the women's sector, the list of absences also includes Wimbledon finalist and world number 6 Karolina Muchova, who revealed that she underwent minor surgery after Wimbledon. The 29-year-old Czech explained on social media: “I had to have a minor surgery that will keep me off the courts for a few weeks. Everything went well, and I am already working on my recovery. I am sad that I can't play in Toronto this year, I was really looking forward to making my debut, but recovery comes first.” Emma Raducanu, Hailey Baptiste, and Dayana Yastremska have also withdrawn from the tournament, leaving the women's field significantly depleted.
On the men's side, Carlos Alcaraz is the major absentee from the player lineup. The Spaniard, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and world number 3, has been sidelined since April due to a right wrist injury. His absence from the Montreal Masters 1000 is felt, given his status and impact on the circuit.
These withdrawals of top players significantly alter the balance of the tournament and open doors for other figures to stand out in one of the most prestigious competitions of the North American summer.
