Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Greek tennis star, made striking revelations about his career, admitting that he has “stopped enjoying” the sport he loves, in a year marked by injuries and frustrations. The former world number 3, who has been a constant presence at the top of tennis, is now facing the challenge of regaining his form after a 2025 campaign that did not go as planned.

The 2025 season was a true test for Tsitsipas, who saw his ranking drop to 36th place, a dramatic decline of 25 spots since the beginning of the year. Despite a brief recovery with victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships in March, his performance was severely affected by a persistent back injury. The Greek suffered a surprising defeat to Matteo Gigante in the second round of the French Open in May and subsequently withdrew in the first round of Wimbledon against Valentin Royer. His participation in the US Open also ended in disappointment, losing to Daniel Altmaier in a tense match decided in five sets.

After months away from the courts, Tsitsipas expressed his frustration in a conversation with Bolavip. “It was a strange and frustrating period. I was away from the court and competition, becoming just an observer of tennis and the ATP Tour,” he lamented. He emphasized that his situation became complicated, as the treatment for his back was not yielding satisfactory results, leading him to consult several specialists in the field. The struggle against pain and uncertainty regarding his health became predominant in his mind, shifting the focus from the game to recovery.

The emotional impact of the injuries was profound: “Health became the most important thing in my life, and even at the beginning of this year, I still had many doubts about my future,” he confessed. Despite the uncertainty, Tsitsipas managed to start 2026 with a promising return, winning seven of the nine matches played so far.

Now, with a current ranking of 32, the Greek is looking to regain his place among the best, having started his campaign at the Rotterdam Open with a convincing victory over eighth seed Arthur Rinderknech. In the next round, he will face home favorite Botic van de Zandschulp in the battle for a spot in the quarter-finals. Tsitsipas’s determination to transcend his difficulties is undoubtedly a sign that he is not willing to give up easily on the sport he loves so much.

As he progresses, the tennis community is watching closely, hoping that the former champion finds not only his form but also the joy that took him to the top of the sport.
