Benfica, one of the giants of Portuguese football, has just made history by securing their place in the Champions League play-off, a feat that not only elevates the team’s sporting aspirations but also promises a significant financial impact for the club’s SAD. With a decisive header from Trubin, sealing a 4-2 victory against Real Madrid in stoppage time, the Lisbon club ensured a financial boost that is set to further strengthen their accounts.

The victory brought an immediate boost of €2.1 million, but the real cherry on top of the financial cake came with the confirmation of their presence in the next stage of the competition, which adds another million to the club’s coffers. With this, the total accumulated now reaches the impressive sum of €54 million. However, it is important to highlight that this amount is still below the €73 million earned in the previous season, reflecting the demands and competitiveness of the Champions League.

Benfica’s participation in the competition is not limited to the amounts from victories. The club had already secured around €43 million, stemming from their entry into the league phase and revenues related to television contracts and rankings. Additionally, the team managed to add €6.3 million, resulting from their three victories, which include the amount from the play-off and a respectable sum for finishing in 24th place.

Now, all eyes are on the Round of 16, where Benfica could aim for an additional 11 million euros. This scenario not only underscores the importance of sporting performance in the Champions League but also reveals the club’s financial strategy, which seeks to maximize its revenues while pursuing a prominent place in European football.

The encouraging words from the coaching staff, such as Nuno Moreira’s recent “It’s time to play!” directed at the Vasco da Gama player, echo Benfica’s determination to overcome obstacles and secure a spot among the continent’s best. With a solid support base and astute financial management, Benfica is prepared to face the challenges ahead, both on and off the pitch.
