Francesco Farioli, the charismatic coach of FC Porto, does not hide his excitement after the convincing 3-0 victory over Moreirense. In a pointed statement after the match, the Italian coach emphasized the importance of going into halftime with a two-goal lead: “It was the right night, perfect before another important game we have in the Europa League. It was very important to have a two-goal advantage at halftime; it gave us more confidence. We are very happy with what we achieved,” Farioli said to Sport TV microphones.

The victory was not just a good result; it was a well-executed strategy that will allow FC Porto to manage their workload in a demanding schedule. “The last substitution, for example, was to prevent Pepê from having any setbacks. When there’s an opportunity, I like to rest players. It was a good day for that, thanks to the great intensity we put into the first half,” explained the coach, revealing his careful and strategic approach.

Farioli also highlighted the continued strong performance of the team, referencing the previous match against Stuttgart. “It was a good continuation from the game against Stuttgart, and now we want to prepare for the second leg [of the Europa League Round of 16] as if it were 0-0 and with a strong desire to win,” he stated, showing his focus on the upcoming challenge and ambition to progress in the European competition.

However, not everything was positive news. The coach revealed that Pietuszewski faced health issues: “He had a virus two or three days ago and felt something at halftime, so he had to come off.” This serves as a reminder that, even in victories, football can be unpredictable.

With a seven-point lead in the league over the two second-placed teams, Farioli remained cautious: “It doesn’t make sense to look at the table now because the main competitor has one game less. We have to focus on our role, now it’s about winning against Stuttgart, then thinking about the difficult game in Braga and taking it one game at a time.”

Squad management was a central theme, especially regarding the substitution of left-back Zaidu for Pablo Rosario. “Pablo plays in several positions; we can’t even say what his real position is. It was important to give him minutes. Francisco Moura is committed to the team and ready to play at any moment. I had to make decisions, but nothing more than that,” Farioli clarified, highlighting the depth and versatility of his squad.

FC Porto, under the leadership of Farioli, appears to be on a promising path, ready to face the upcoming challenges with ambition and determination. The next match promises to be a crucial test, but with confidence running high, the team is determined to continue its winning streak.
