Marcel Desailly, one of the icons of French football, did not shy away from addressing the controversy surrounding players Prestianni and Vinícius Júnior, in a statement that promises to stir emotions in the sports world. The former central defender, now a respected figure in the Laureus World Sports Academy, expressed his satisfaction at seeing Vinícius’s development on the pitch, especially in light of the recent racist events that have tarnished the sporting environment.

“I am happy to see Vinícius playing and to see that Mourinho has changed his approach to the matter a bit. He can celebrate; he did that the last time he scored a goal. There is no problem. The problem is the perception of Vinícius; we need to end that and accept the fact that there are things that need to change. Because it is unacceptable, within a stadium, when these things happen,” Desailly stated, in a clear reference to the need for a more inclusive and respectful atmosphere in stadiums.

This statement comes at a critical moment for Real Madrid, which currently occupies second place in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona, after a surprising home defeat to Getafe (0-1) in the 26th round. Desailly did not hesitate to comment on the team’s performance: “In terms of execution speed, they are not as calm, but they have individual talents that allow them to maintain their level until, collectively, they manage to adjust a bit what is necessary to become that famous Real Madrid. But, in the meantime, it is good for them to have a bit of calm,” analyzed the former player, who made history at clubs such as Nantes, Marseille, Milan, and Chelsea.

The tension surrounding Vinícius Júnior’s situation reflects a broader issue in football, where racism and intolerance still persist. The fight against these attitudes is undoubtedly a battle that transcends sport, and the intervention of figures like Desailly is crucial to promote change. The message is clear: it is time to put an end to prejudices and create a space where all athletes can shine, regardless of their background.
