Ruben Amorim does not intend to recruit from Sporting for Milan at the moment.

Rúben Amorim did not hesitate: despite the speculation that has flooded the transfer market, the new AC Milan coach remains steadfast and, for now, refuses any attempts to target players from Sporting. The Portuguese coach, who swapped the lions for the rossoneri just a week ago, is fully focused on analyzing the options currently available to him in Milan – and it is surprising that he does not include any reinforcements from Alvalade in his immediate plans, despite the evident connections and the recognized talent of names like Morten Hjulmand, Francisco Trincão, and Pedro Gonçalves.

The transfer of Amorim to the Italian giant has been officially confirmed, immediately sparking a whirlwind of rumors regarding potential moves by Milan for players who were key to the success of Sporting. Hjulmand, Trincão, and Pedro Gonçalves, all personal bets of the coach during his time at the Alvalade club, are seen by many as natural targets to strengthen the new team of the 41-year-old manager. However, contrary to expectations and reports circulating in recent days, sources close to the situation assure that, at this moment, there is no concrete intention to move forward with negotiations with Sporting.

The context is of enormous relevance for Sporting and for the national market itself. With three players being pointed towards the exit, at a time when there is talk of a possible end of cycle in the Leonine squad, many expected that Amorim would take the opportunity to bring some of his trusted men along to his new adventure in Italy. However, the coach’s priority is well defined: to first analyze the quality and potential of the Milanese squad before considering any movement in the market. The start of Milan’s pre-season is scheduled for July 12, and Amorim wants to use this period to assess internal solutions and understand how the players adapt to his ideas and tactical demands.

This stance from Amorim has a direct impact on Sporting and the Liga Portugal Betclic. On one hand, it temporarily eases the pressure on Frederico Varandas and Hugo Viana, who fear losing key players from the starting eleven to the new millionaire in Calcio. On the other hand, it sends a clear signal to the Milan dressing room: no one has a guaranteed place, and everyone will have to convince the new boss. However, the dynamics of the market are unpredictable, and as sources close to the coach emphasize, “one cannot completely rule out future interest, especially if any of Milan’s options do not meet expectations.”

When recently questioned about potential interest in Sporting players, Amorim limited himself to saying, in informal remarks to the Italian press, that “the priority is to get to know the Milan squad well and make the most of the players already at the club.” The coach made it clear: “I really like the players I worked with at Sporting, but at this moment my focus is entirely on Milan and preparing for a season of maximum demand.” These words make it clear that, at least until the end of pre-season, any advances for Leonine players are out of the question.

The analysis that emerges is clear: Amorim opts for a cautious approach, avoiding unnecessary conflicts or pressures with Sporting and preferring to consolidate his power in the Milan dressing room before requesting reinforcements. This decision may be strategic, allowing him to better assess the real needs of the rossonero squad and avoiding spending his credit with the Italian management too soon. At the same time, he keeps open the possibility of making surgical signings that could elevate Milan if any of his former protégés remain available later on.

The next steps involve an intense period of internal evaluation in Milan, where all players will have to prove themselves to secure a place in the new Amorim era. Sporting, for its part, is breathing – but only for now. Uncertainty remains, and the summer transfer market could still hold surprises, especially if any of Amorim’s targets do not meet expectations or if an irresistible business opportunity arises. For now, however, the message is unequivocal: Rúben Amorim is not looking at Sporting. At least, for the time being.
