“PSG steps in for Diomande, but the price deters suitors: Sporting will only open the door in the summer — and with conditions.”

The name of **Ousmane Diomande** has once again set the European market ablaze. This weekend, several French outlets placed **Paris Saint-Germain** on the trail of the central defender from **Sporting**, citing a concrete figure for an approach for the number 26 jersey: **45 million euros**. A number that, according to gathered information, **is not enough to convince Alvalade** — neither now nor in the immediate future.

The position of Sporting is clear: **any offer below the buyout clause, set at 80 million euros, is not viable in this winter window**.

## PSG interested, but far from the required amount

The interest from **Paris Saint-Germain** confirms the status that **Ousmane Diomande** has achieved in European football. At 22 years old, the Ivorian international is an **absolute reference in Sporting’s defense**, playing as the right central defender in the starting duo with **Gonçalo Inácio**.

Despite the figure circulating in France (45 M€), the reading from Alvalade is unequivocal: **that amount “hits the post”**. Sporting **does not want to negotiate in January** and believes that Diomande is a key piece in the fight for the season’s objectives.

## Renewal agreed… with a “door” open in the summer

Internally, the dossier is well underway. Sporting has the renewal lined up for three more seasons, extending the contract of the central defender from 2027 to 2030. The formalization is expected to take place after the player’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a competition in which he is representing the Ivory Coast.

But there is a crucial detail: the agreement includes an understanding for the summer. It has been established that, if a proposal around 40 million euros arrives, the exit will not be hindered, allowing Diomande to make the leap to one of the big-5 European leagues.

Long-standing interest and a hot summer on the horizon

The attention from giants is not new. Last summer, Crystal Palace was very close to signing the central defender for 55 million euros. Now it is PSG that appears on the radar — a clear sign that Diomande has definitively entered the circuit of the most valued defenders in the market.

Still, Sporting is closing the door in January. The priority is sporting: to keep the leader of the defense, ensure stability, and only then evaluate scenarios.

An exemplary investment that explains the firmness

The financial trajectory helps to understand the lion’s position. In 2023, when Diomande was on loan to Mafra, Sporting paid 7.5 million euros to Midtjylland.

The deal included variables:

  • 1.66 M€ for every block of 30 games (minimum of 45 minutes)
  • Up to a maximum of 5 M€, reached after 90 games (fulfilled in the Super Cup, in July)

In total, the cost rose to 14.5 million euros. More recently, the lions invested 2 million euros to reduce from 20% to 10% the percentage of the capital gain to be paid to the Danes in a future transfer.

Result? A strategic asset, highly valued and under the total control of Sporting.

Alvalade decides the timing — and the price

The scenario is set:

  • Winter: Diomande is untouchable
  • Summer: controlled opening, with significant values
  • PSG: interested, but far from the right number

For now, the central defender from Sporting is focused on the Africa Cup of Nations and the green and white season. The market is watching. Alvalade commands.
