Francisco Trincão is on the verge of making history as he returns to the Pedreira, the ground that saw him grow before he became one of the key players for Sporting. The Portuguese international, who has already made his mark in matches against Braga, is ready to face his former team in a clash that promises to be electrifying. On two previous occasions, Trincão caused havoc at Alvalade, with Sporting winning by a crushing 5-0 in both matches, both in the League Cup and in the championship. Now, with the pressure mounting, he has the opportunity to shine away from home.
Recently, Sporting announced the renewal of Trincão’s contract until 2030, a recognition of his value to the squad that comes with a salary exceeding 2 million euros net per year. This investment is not by chance: over his four seasons at the club, Trincão has contributed to the winning of four trophies, including two championships, one Taça de Portugal, and one Taça da Liga, solidifying his position as an essential reference for the two-time champions.
It is interesting to note that Trincão’s career began precisely at Braga, where he stood out in the youth ranks before rising to the first team. In his first season, in 2018/19, the player participated in only eight matches, but quickly proved his worth. In his second year, he made 40 appearances, scored nine goals, and provided 11 assists, numbers that caught the attention of Barcelona, which paid 31 million euros to sign him.
Despite a less illustrious stint in Spain, where he was even loaned to Wolverhampton, Trincão did not fade from memory. Sporting, under the leadership of Frederico Varandas, decided to invest 21 million to secure his transfer, a gamble that has already begun to pay off.
So far, Trincão has faced Braga seven times in the league, starting in five of those occasions and contributing with one goal and two assists. In the League Cup, he also stood out, scoring one goal in two matches against his former team. However, a curious fact is that Trincão has yet to score at the Estádio Municipal de Braga, a feat that becomes a personal challenge for him in the upcoming encounters. With the pressure mounting and history waiting to be made, Trincão is determined to leave his mark on the ground that launched him to stardom.
