Iga Swiatek had a fun and unexpected moment on social media, playfully teasing Flavio Cobolli after the Italian’s defeat in the 2026 French Open final. The Polish star, a four-time champion at Roland Garros, seized the opportunity to poke fun at the opponent who succumbed to Alexander Zverev in an epic match that lasted over four hours.

Flavio Cobolli, who began the tournament ranked 14th in the world and reached the Grand Slam final for the first time in his career, saw his incredible journey come to an end at the hands of Zverev, the world No. 3, who won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 in an exhausting physical and mental battle. Despite the setback, the young Italian, 24, made a leap in the rankings, reaching 10th place, thanks to impressive victories over opponents such as Felix Auger-Aliassime and Wu Yibing.

However, it was the message from the Polish player that immediately captured attention after the match. On Instagram, Swiatek wrote just 12 words: “Congratulations @flavio_cobbo. I suppose you did eat the strawberry pasta after all.” This reference stemmed from a light-hearted conversation between the two at the previous year’s Wimbledon, where Swiatek confessed her love for an unconventional Polish dish of pasta with strawberries and yogurt.

Cobolli, in an interview with Tennis Channel, joked about the strangeness of the combination, stating that the Italian would have difficulties in Italy with this culinary choice. “I told her yesterday: ‘What have you done? Now they want to try pasta with strawberry!’” he said, adding humorously that “this is worse than pineapple on pizza.”

The exchange of culinary provocations between the two athletes reveals a lighter and more human side of high-level tennis, even when prestigious titles are at stake. Swiatek, who was surprisingly eliminated in the fourth round by Marta Kostyuk, demonstrated that rivalry can coexist with humor and camaraderie.

This episode also reflects the evolution of Cobolli, who, despite the defeat, emerged as one of the most promising talents in world tennis and is set to continue making headlines in the coming seasons. Amidst pasta and strawberries, the 2026 French Open will be remembered not only for the intensity on the court but also for this curious gastronomic duel on social media.
