“France remains unbeaten, but criticisms point to a lack of a true test in the World Cup.”

France has once again crushed the competition, leaving everyone questioning: is this the unbeatable team of this World Cup, or has no one truly challenged them yet? On a night of delirium in East Rutherford, French fans dominated the stands, but it was on the pitch that the French showed an absolutely terrifying offensive power, dispatching Sweden 3-0 and setting yet another historic record.

In front of more than 83,000 spectators at MetLife Stadium, the world champions delivered another gala performance, with Kylian Mbappé leading the goal fest and leaving the Swedish defense completely adrift. The first goal came in the 19th minute but was ruled out after a VAR review. Still, the French pressure did not relent, and just before halftime, Mbappé finally unlocked the score with a world-class individual play. Shortly after the restart, Bradley Barcola extended the lead after a slalom through the Swedish defenders, and near the end, Mbappé scored again, sealing the final result and celebrating with a leap worthy of a rocket, as if to confirm that France is on another level.

This victory surprised no one: France became the first team in World Cup history to score three or more goals in five consecutive matches. However, there remains doubt about the true value of their opponents so far. Senegal, Iraq, and a completely unrecognizable Norway were just some of the obstacles already overcome by Les Bleus, none of which even feature in the top 15 of the FIFA ranking. Sweden itself entered this final phase in a state of organizational chaos, far from its best days.

The question that arises is: is France really being seriously tested in this World Cup? Or, as Swedish coach Graham Potter himself asks, are we all just being misled by the brilliance of a team that has yet to face a true giant? “We knew we had to be perfect,” Potter admitted after the final whistle. “Even if we were perfect, it might not have been enough. We needed one or two miracles.” When asked if he believes any opponent can stop this France, Potter was emphatic: “Of course, this is football, anything is possible, but I personally have not seen a better team yet.”

On the French side, confidence is high, but there are warnings about the dangers of overconfidence. In the next round, France will face Paraguay, a team outside the FIFA top 30 ranking, but one that arrives buoyed by a surprising victory over Germany. Will this be the true test of French invincibility, or yet another stroll for a team that seems to be playing in a league of its own?

The impact of this overwhelming run is already being felt. Opponents fear the attacking prowess of the world champions, while fans are beginning to believe that France can indeed defend their title without major hiccups. The question now is whether Didier Deschamps' team can maintain this level when they finally come up against an opponent of their caliber. For now, all eyes will be on the clash against Paraguay, where it is expected that, finally, France will be forced to show all that they are worth. In a World Cup where surprises have been the order of the day, only a true test can dispel all doubts: is this France truly unstoppable, or just the best among the weaker teams?
