Jannik Sinner’s parents decline invitation to the royal box at Wimbledon.

Surprising yet true to his reserved character, Jannik Sinner revealed that his own parents declined an exclusive invitation to watch his matches live from the Royal Box at Wimbledon. While many tennis players insist on having their family present during significant moments, the parents of the world number one chose to support him from a distance, away from the spotlight and cameras of the All England Club.

The iconic Royal Box, located at Centre Court, was the venue for invitations to Siglinde and Johann Sinner during the tournament's first round, where the Italian faced Miomir Kecmanovic. However, contrary to what one might expect, they preferred to remain discreet, something that did not surprise Sinner himself. “They didn't say yes. That's fine, I know them well enough not to even ask,” the player explained in statements to Sky Sports Tennis. “Especially I know my mother, and I know she doesn't want to be in front of the cameras, the same goes for my father. I expected a firm no, and that's what I got, so it's all good.”

In a scenario where athletes like Carlos Alcaraz draw strength from the constant presence of family, Jannik Sinner presents a different narrative. Despite the absences, support has never been lacking, but it is always given in a reserved manner. The Italian, who recently survived a scare against Serbian player Kecmanovic—having been down two sets to one and persisting even after a dramatic fall—demonstrated his resilience by turning the match around to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

The royal invitation refusal says a lot about the Sinner family's profile, accustomed to protecting their privacy, even in the face of the biggest stages in world tennis. Siglinde, Jannik's mother, is known for avoiding the stress of watching her son compete, preferring not to attend in person. The last time she was at Wimbledon was in the 2025 final, where she saw her son lift the trophy against Carlos Alcaraz. Johann, a professional chef, even missed the 2025 Roland Garros final to work in a restaurant in the Dolomites, demonstrating that even professional commitments are not set aside for Jannik's success.

Despite everything, Sinner does not hide that he understands and even values this family distance from the big stages. “I think they leave me alone with what I have to do,” he confessed to Vogue in June of this year. “I have my job, and they have theirs; they know about tennis, of course, but not as much as I do because they never played. I know what is best for me and what I need to do.” Furthermore, the tennis player revealed that at home, they rarely talk about tennis, preferring topics that help him disconnect from the competitive stress. “That's how we are as a family. We like to support each other, but we also give each other space. When we're at home, we never talk about tennis — we talk about other things,” he added.

Even so, the rare appearances of the Sinners in the stands are striking. One example was during the semi-finals of the Rome Masters, when Siglinde, visibly distressed by her son's physical condition — who faced health issues and even vomited on the court — ended up leaving the venue midway through the match. Johann remained stoic in the players' box, as is customary. The Italian recovered, defeated Medvedev, and won the title in front of the Italian crowd, with his parents finally witnessing the moment of glory.

As Wimbledon approaches, Jannik Sinner returns to his usual routine: without his parents in the stands, but with the same concentration and composure that characterize him. Next Saturday, he will face Japanese player Shintaro Mochizuki in the round of 16, a match in which the odds are in favor of the Italian. The absence of his parents does not seem to shake Sinner's determination, as he remains focused on repeating the glory of 2025 and consolidating his status as world leader.

This unusual episode highlights not only the uniqueness of the Sinner family but also underscores the more human and reserved side of a champion who prefers domestic tranquility over media frenzy. In the world of tennis, where exposure is ever-increasing, the Sinners' choice challenges conventions and shows that sometimes the secret to success lies in simplicity and support away from the spotlight. The world will be watching to see if this unique formula continues to bear fruit on the sacred grass of Wimbledon.
