Aymeric Laporte issued a clear warning in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup final, focusing on Argentina's aggression. The 32-year-old Spanish center-back addressed in an interview with 'Marca' the controversy surrounding the playing style of the Albiceleste team, emphasizing that officiating will play a crucial role in controlling the decisive match.

Laporte highlighted that he does not fear aggression on the field, as long as it is managed by the referees: “I'm not at all concerned about aggression in football. If it is allowed and the referee does his job, I have no problem at all.” However, the player pointed out that in recent matches involving Argentina, plays he considers “very strange” and featuring “many ugly tackles” have been permitted. For him, this type of behavior should not be tolerated, especially in prestigious competitions: “In football, it should not be allowed, especially in such big competitions, because it can destabilize and irritate you.”

The Spanish national team's center-back emphasized that officiating must be strict to prevent the game from spiraling out of control: “It's part of the referee's job to control these things so that they are not allowed to dominate. If one or two players can do that, the game will be out of control.” Laporte takes pride in his team's conduct during this World Cup, which has been “quite noble” and free from aggression or unnecessary fouls. “And I think that's what we need to do in this game. But it's true that it will depend a lot on the officiating,” he concluded.

Regarding the spirit of the Spanish team before the decisive match, Laporte assured that calm is the dominant note: “Honestly, we are super calm. Since I arrived here, we have always had that tranquility.” The defender justified this serenity with the team's mentality, which does not get carried away by excessive enthusiasm after important victories, such as the one against France. “When we won against France, there was celebration in the locker room, but without craziness, because our goal is not to win against France, it is to win the tournament.” Laporte concluded with a clear statement of ambition: “We always aspire to the highest and leaving the mission halfway does not serve us.”

With these words, the player makes it clear that Spain is focused, confident, and attentive to potential challenges both on and off the pitch. The final of the 2026 World Cup promises to be an intense duel, where officiating could be decisive in controlling the intensity and ensuring a fair game between two elite teams.
