Newcastle is determined to secure the signing of Amar Dedic before the end of the weekend. The English club, which is eager to finalize the deal, is accelerating negotiations with Benfica but has yet to meet the €35 million demanded by the Eagles. However, it seems that an agreement for a five-year contract with the 23-year-old right-back is practically assured.
The Magpies have already made an offer of €30 million and are willing to include performance-related bonuses to persuade Benfica to release Dedic. The president of the Eagles, Rui Costa, is aware of the pressure Newcastle is under and currently does not seem inclined to budge on the financial demands. The expectation is that the next few hours will bring news regarding this transfer, as the interest from the English club is palpable.
Additionally, the situation at Newcastle requires a swift solution. The team has been relying on young academy players, such as Leo Shahar and Mason Miley, due to the injury absence of Tino Livramento. The English international, who has Portuguese roots, continues to recover from a muscle injury and, despite having posted training images on social media, is not available for the start of the season. This situation increases the pressure on Newcastle to secure Dedic quickly.
The urgency of Newcastle is even more evident, as a club scout was sent to Edinburgh to watch the match between Benfica and Hearts, where Dedic started for the first time and played the full 90 minutes. The Bosnian international has shown interest in moving to Newcastle, attracted by the possibility of competing in the Premier League, as well as reuniting with his former coach, Matthias Jaissle, and assistant Florens Koch, who played a crucial role in his development at Salzburg.
Dedic, who was signed by Benfica from Salzburg a year ago for €10 million, has a contract until 2030 and a release clause of €50 million. Last season, he stood out by accumulating 43 appearances, one goal, and four assists, establishing himself as one of the most consistent players in the team. Newcastle's interest is clear, especially with the last pre-season match taking place against Leverkusen, ahead of their Premier League debut scheduled for the 23rd against Liverpool. Signing Dedic could be a key piece for Newcastle in their ambition to stand out in the English league.
