Curtis Jones is set to leave Liverpool to sign for Inter Milan, with a transfer fee that has finally been revealed. The midfielder, who came through the Reds' academy, sees his playing time at Anfield diminishing, and the pressure to make the move to Serie A has been increasing in recent months.
Liverpool appears willing to facilitate Jones' departure, as his usage has been limited under the management of new coach, Andoni Iraola. With only a year left on his contract, the club has reduced its financial demands, allowing Inter Milan to proceed with negotiations. According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, “Inter is in direct talks with Liverpool to finalize a deal for Curtis Jones. The structure of the package is under discussion, similar to the €35 million that allowed Inter to sign Djed Spence. The talks are progressing positively.”
This situation contrasts with previous experiences at Liverpool, where players like Ibrahima Konaté, Andrew Robertson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold left the club on free transfers after their contracts ended. This reality has made the Anfield management cautious in handling Jones' exit, which explains the relatively low price of £30 million for a player who has already made over 200 appearances and scored 22 goals for Liverpool.
In the last season, Jones was a starter in 18 of the 34 matches of the Premier League, but the imminent arrival of a new coach could further limit his participation in the first team. His transfer to Inter Milan not only represents a new opportunity for the player but also allows Liverpool to reinvest in the squad, which could be crucial in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
With Jones' departure, Liverpool will be able to reassess their squad and seek new talents to strengthen their position in the Premier League. The pressure is now on the club to ensure that the exit of the young talent does not affect their competitiveness in the upcoming season.
