Taylor Fritz not only secured his spot in the third round of Wimbledon, but he also turned his entrance onto the court into a true fashion event, catching the attentive gaze of Princess Kate and thousands of fans at the All England Club. The American, currently the sixth seed and a semifinalist in 2023, convincingly defeated compatriot Patrick Kypson, with a score of 6-2, 6-2, and 7-5, never losing control of the match – and never losing his style.

Fritz appeared on Court No. 2 wearing a pristine white blazer and NBA-style warm-up pants, immediately drawing the attention of the audience and the press. While the outfit caused a stir, his performance on the court was equally impressive: the Californian fired 19 aces and avoided the danger of a fourth set, closing the match with authority and celebrating with a clenched fist after converting the fourth match point. “I’m really happy I was able to break at that moment, avoid the tie-break, avoid going to a fourth set and just close it out in three,” Fritz said, visibly pleased in the on-court interview shortly after his victory.

This Wimbledon is, in fact, showcasing a new side of the American tennis player. After winning in straight sets in the opening round, Fritz opted for a bold look once again, this time without logistical difficulties in removing his pants. “I’m a more discreet person, so this is definitely something different for me, stepping onto the court in the full outfit,” acknowledged the 28-year-old player, laughing. Regarding the curious inspiration for the moment, Fritz confided: “In the first round, I had some difficulty getting that off. I saw a video of Frances (Tiafoe) doing the full tear and I tried to copy it today.”

The day was equally positive for Alex de Minaur, ranked fifth in the ATP rankings, who did not falter against the experienced Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, winning 6-3, 6-2, and 6-2. The Australian, known for his combative style and consistency, gave no chances to his opponent and confirmed his favoritism, also remaining without dropping a set at the start of the tournament.

These results reinforce both players' positions as serious contenders to reach the later stages of a Wimbledon edition that has proven to be unpredictable and full of surprises. For Fritz, the solidity demonstrated in his serves and growing confidence—both on and off the court—could be decisive assets in the upcoming rounds. De Minaur, for his part, continues to establish himself as one of the most dangerous players on grass, thanks to his speed and adaptability.

On the horizon, Fritz will face increasingly demanding opponents, and it is expected that the bar will be raised significantly. His ability to maintain focus and performance under pressure will be tested, especially if he wants to surpass last year's result and reach the final of the London major for the first time. Meanwhile, De Minaur, buoyed by two solid victories, seeks to capitalize on his good form to also achieve new milestones at the oldest Grand Slam in the world.

With stars shining both on and off the court, Wimbledon 2024 promises to continue surprising and generating buzz, both for the talent on display and the spectacle provided. The upcoming matches will be crucial to understand how far Fritz and De Minaur can go in an edition where style and high-level tennis are clearly intertwined.
