Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, has no doubts: this season is the most challenging of his career so far. However, he believes that if he can secure qualification for the Champions League, the effort will be deemed “acceptable.” The team’s defense of the Premier League title has been a true nightmare, with injuries limiting their capacity, even after a staggering investment of £446 million in the summer.

The difficulties have been so evident that Slot has been mentioned as a potential candidate for dismissal, especially after a series of six losses in seven matches and a public standoff with star Mohamed Salah. Nevertheless, despite these turbulent moments, the Dutch manager remains optimistic about his team’s progress. “It’s fair to say that this is by far the most difficult season for me as a coach,” Slot stated. “I have never lost two consecutive matches before!”

Frustration is palpable, given that both he and the players are not used to such a record of defeats and draws. “This season has been a much bigger challenge for me,” he added. However, Slot sees light at the end of the tunnel: “But I also look at how much we are improving. The most important thing as a coach is the results, but the next aspect is to see the players evolving, and I’m noticing that.”

The season is not lost yet. Liverpool is still in the fight for two trophies and occupies sixth place in the Premier League, with 13 games remaining. The possibility of a return to the Champions League next season is therefore well within reach. Slot has already set ambitious goals for the future, making it clear that the team will be active in the summer transfer market if they qualify. “If we don’t have the Champions League, then it definitely wasn’t an acceptable season,” he stated. “When I arrived here, we could only sign Federico Chiesa, and that only happened after a season in the Europa League. I’m fully aware of that.”

The pressure is high, but Slot’s determination is even stronger. As the season enters its decisive phase, Liverpool fans are eagerly awaiting a revival of the team, which promises to fight until the end for its place among the giants of Europe.
