Michael Carrick has just drawn a clear line in the transfer market: Amad Diallo will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer, despite persistent interest from AC Milan. At a time when rumors of the Ivorian winger’s departure were gaining traction in Italy, Manchester United has made it unequivocally clear that Diallo is part of their plans for the upcoming season – and that no offer will divert him from Carrington.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the position of the Red Devils leaves no room for doubt. Michael Carrick, the head coach of Manchester United, has unequivocally communicated to the management that he counts on Amad Diallo and will not part with the African talent, regardless of any movements coming from Milan. The interest from the new AC Milan coach, Rúben Amorim, is genuine and has raised alarms in Manchester, but the English club has closed the door to any approach. Diallo, who finished the season with two goals and three assists in 32 matches, is not on the market, contradicting the growing speculation about a possible transfer to Italy.

The importance of this positioning cannot be underestimated. Manchester United, buoyed by a dazzling second half of the season that culminated in a third-place finish in the Premier League, aims to capitalize on this momentum to approach the new season with renewed ambition. Qualification for the Champions League has increased the budget for reinforcements, and the squad is already preparing to welcome Ederson, midfielder from Atalanta, while Carrick demands one or two more reinforcements for the midfield, in addition to a left-back and a left winger. However, the decision to keep Diallo demonstrates that the club intends not only to make new signings but also to preserve its most promising assets.
Michael Carrick, the manager, does not hide his admiration for the young winger. In a press conference in early May, Carrick was emphatic: “I think he’s playing well, Amad. I believe there’s much more to his game, especially when you’re playing in a winning team like ours; you shouldn’t worry too much about the numbers. He contributes a lot to the team. He has talent, a lot of ability, but his work and attitude are fantastic. He has played in different positions. I’m a big fan of Amad.” Carrick also added that “it was bad luck and little more than a tactical issue that led to him coming off during the last game,” reinforcing that “Amad has given a lot to the team and is the kind of player who makes a difference, even if he doesn’t make the headlines.”
Fabrizio Romano, through his YouTube channel, reiterated the club’s clear stance: “There have been reports in Italy suggesting a possible move to AC Milan, but Manchester United’s position is very clear: Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer. Michael Carrick has communicated his decision to the club, and Manchester United fully expects Amad Diallo to remain part of the plans for the new season. Therefore, if you continue to see speculation linking Amad Diallo to Milan or other clubs, the Red Devils’ position remains unchanged: they want him to stay.”
With Rasmus Højlund’s imminent move to Napoli, valued at £38 million, and the possibility of Marcus Rashford also leaving Old Trafford, Carrick knows he needs stability and quality in an attack that may be weakened. Betting on Amad Diallo is, therefore, a strategic move: the African winger has room for growth and has already shown, even without impressive numbers, that he is ready to take on responsibilities in high-level games. The coach’s confidence is total, and if he maintains his performance, Diallo could even be one of Manchester United’s great revelations in 2024/25.
For now, the message is clear: Manchester United is not willing to negotiate Amad Diallo and expects the player to be a key piece in their attack in the Premier League and the Champions League. External pressure should not shake this conviction, but the market is unpredictable, and only time will tell if Carrick can hold on to all his promises until the transfer window closes. What is certain is that, at this moment, Amad Diallo is staying – and the bar is set higher than ever at Old Trafford.
