Celtic rejects massive offer from Nottingham Forest for Arne Engels! The Scottish team is standing firm in its position, turning down a proposal of approximately £17 million for the promising Belgian midfielder. Tension in the transfer market is rising as clubs strive to strengthen their squads, but Celtic is unwilling to part with one of its most valuable talents.
Nottingham Forest, in an attempt to secure Arne Engels’ services, had already submitted an initial offer of £14 million, which was promptly rejected. Their second approach, which increased to £17 million, also proved unsuccessful. Engels, who joined Celtic for £11 million from Augsburg, has established himself as a key player in the team’s setup, having made 89 appearances and contributed to the club’s Scottish Championship and League Cup triumph last season.
Following the 2-0 victory over Falkirk, Celtic’s interim manager, Martin O’Neill, was asked about Forest’s proposal. His response was clear: “Honestly, I’m telling you, I knew nothing about it. If they did, then it must have been during the game. And I would hope it was rejected unless it was £100 million. In that case, I think the board would intervene. No, absolutely, I prefer to keep him.”
O’Neill revealed that Celtic is close to making two signings, as both clubs prepare for the Europa League playoffs taking place this month. Currently, Celtic sits in second place in the Premiership, six points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian, while Nottingham Forest is struggling in 17th place in the Premier League.
The decision by Celtic to reject the offer from Nottingham Forest is not only a reflection of their confidence in Engels but also a clear message to other teams in the market: the Scots are not willing to sell their best players at prices they consider low. The transfer saga continues, but for now, Arne Engels’ future appears to be in Glasgow.
