Genoa beat Juventus 2-0 at the Estádio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa, deepening the crisis at Luciano Spalletti’s side. Kingsley Ehizibue and Tommaso Baldanzi were the stars of the match, with Genoa taking advantage of the weaknesses of a listless, disorganised Juventus.
Juventus’s injury crisis
Spalletti’s side continue to suffer with a serious injury crisis, which affects key players such as Kenan Yildiz, Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli, among others.
To try to turn things around, Spalletti decided to leave Nick Woltemade on the bench and start Kerim Alajbegovic. Genoa managed to get some players back and could call on Samuel Wiafe and Kingsley Ehizibue, who had been doubtful because of muscle problems.
Goals from Ehizibue and Baldanzi
The match started at a high intensity, with Genoa creating chances from the outset. The first big opportunity came after a poor pass from Federico Gatti, which almost cost Genoa a goal.
The opening goal came after 10 minutes, when Baldanzi crossed from the byline, allowing Ehizibue to score from the rebound after a failed clearance attempt by Andrea Cambiaso. The second was not long in coming: Vitinha intercepted a misplaced pass from the Juventus defence and set up Baldanzi, who did not miss.
Juventus without an answer in the second half
Juventus had a few chances to respond, but were wasteful in front of goal. Pierre Kalulu, who was particularly prominent, had a big chance before the break but failed to take it.
The Juventus manager made changes in the second half, but the team could not find their rhythm. Zhegrova tried to get closer to goal, but Genoa’s defence remained solid.
Spalletti’s side had one last chance in stoppage time, when a free kick from Teun Koopmeiners hit the crossbar. This result worsens Juventus’s position in the Serie A table and casts doubt over the future of some players and of the coaching structure itself.
With this defeat, Juventus are forced to rethink their strategy and urgently get their injured players back. The pressure on Spalletti is growing, while Genoa strengthen their position in the table. The next match will be vital to reverse the negative trend.
