Juventus on the brink of internal revolution: Spalletti gains absolute power over signings while Comolli faces drastic changes

The turbulent internal landscape of Juventus is set to undergo a significant revolution. John Elkann, the club’s owner, is preparing for a decisive meeting with head coach Luciano Spalletti and CEO Damien Comolli, with the clear intention of redefining responsibilities within the club’s structure. The big news? The Italian coach may finally assume a much firmer control over the transfer market, in a change that promises to shake the foundations of the bianconera management.

Following a disastrous season that culminated in Juventus’s failure to secure qualification for the Champions League, the club appears determined to change course. Unlike Milan, which is preparing major overhauls to its squad, Juventus is expected to focus on a relatively stable squad, concentrating primarily on internal reorganization to avoid further setbacks.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the meeting between Elkann, Spalletti, and Comolli is imminent, possibly today, and will be crucial for reassessing Juventus’ organizational structure. Spalletti did not hide his dissatisfaction and demanded greater autonomy in market decision-making, a claim that the owner perceives as legitimate. Thus, Comolli will have to adapt and collaborate more closely with the coach on decisions regarding the club’s incoming and outgoing players.

The newspaper Tuttosport emphasizes that Elkann promises to demand “more flexibility” from Comolli, clearly delegating to Spalletti the choices that pertain to his “field of influence, especially in the transfer market.” This represents a dramatic paradigm shift in Juventus’ hiring policy, which until now has been dominated by more centralized and, at times, controversial decisions.

The tension between Spalletti and Comolli is not new. Previous reports have revealed multiple disagreements between the two regarding market choices and club management, making it clear that the current structure has not been functioning. According to Tuttosport, Comolli has already admitted that the algorithm-based model for signings will be reduced, giving way to a vision more aligned with the needs and desires of the coach.

This is not just a change of powers. Juventus is also considering the return of Matteo Tognozzi, the current sporting director of Rio Ave, who previously worked at Allianz Stadium as head of scouting. Tognozzi’s return has the support of influential figures like Giorgio Chiellini, but not everyone at the club may be convinced of his comeback, which could create new internal divisions.

In recent months, Juventus has already undergone a significant structural revolution, with the arrival of Damien Comolli, first as general director and then as CEO, as well as the appointment of François Modesto as technical director and Marco Ottolini as sporting director. However, these changes have not been sufficient to ensure success, and now Elkann is preparing for a new wave of alterations, with Spalletti gaining the control he has always demanded.

The future of Juventus appears to be undergoing a redesign, and the way they manage the transfer market could be crucial for the club’s return to the European stage. It remains to be seen whether the new dynamic between Spalletti and Comolli will bring the stability and effectiveness the team needs – or if internal tensions will continue to erode the giant of Turin.
