Manchester United is seriously considering a transfer for center-back Kim Min-jae from Bayern Munich, but the South Korean international prefers to remain at the Allianz Arena. This experienced defender, who has had a remarkable career at the highest level, has excelled both at Bayern and at his previous club, Napoli.
Currently, Kim is not the first choice in Bayern's defense, but he seems satisfied with his role in the squad managed by Vincent Kompany, despite the interest shown by the Red Devils. Christian Falk, in his CF Bayern Insider column, reveals that the English club has a long-standing interest in Kim, and it is easy to imagine that Michael Carrick would benefit from adding depth to the defense this season.
Falk, discussing the future of the 29-year-old defender, stated: “There is some truth to the reports about Manchester United's interest in Min-jae Kim. As I mentioned earlier, the South Korean international is on United's list. They are always monitoring his situation at Bayern Munich.” However, the expert adds that Kim is “very clear at the moment” that he wishes to remain at Bayern and is satisfied with his current role at the club, even though he is not in the starting lineup.
Kim's situation is interesting, as although he is not playing as a starter, he believes he can reclaim his spot if he performs well and injuries arise. “Kim wants to see if he can return to the team. He is not so disappointed that he wants to force a move, and this is a good situation for Bayern, which knows it cannot rely on just two senior centre-backs throughout the season,” Falk explained. His presence is considered critical, especially for Bayern's aspirations in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Manchester United has already signed Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, but it is clear that the club could benefit from adding one or two more players. While Kim was a viable option for defensive reinforcement, it seems that this possibility is off the table for now. The player's continued presence at Bayern could be a determining factor for the stability of the team's defense, while United will have to explore other alternatives in the transfer market.
