Mikel Arteta demands an immediate response from Arsenal after bitter defeat.

Arsenal is going through a turbulent time and Mikel Arteta is not willing to accept excuses! Following the surprising 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth at the Emirates, the Gunners’ manager issued a clear warning: fatigue cannot be an excuse for the team’s poor performance. With the lead in the Premier League slipping away, Arteta demands an immediate response and a return to the passion that should characterize Arsenal.

The loss to the Cherries was a harsh blow, especially as it marked the team’s third consecutive defeat in domestic competitions — following the Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City and the unexpected FA Cup elimination against Championship side Southampton. This negative streak has called into question the dominance of the Londoners, who missed the opportunity to pull 12 points clear of rival Pep Guardiola.

In the midst of a grueling schedule, with this being Arsenal’s 54th match of the season — just three games more than City — physical exhaustion seems inevitable. However, Arteta refused to give in to the temptation of using fatigue as an excuse: “I don’t want to pull out those excuses because we’ve been playing many games every three days, and we will have to continue doing so. That is the context, that is the scenario, and we have to embrace it and, above all, enjoy the opportunity.”

The coach emphasized that, in order to change the course of games when they become complicated, it is essential for players to regain their “level of pleasure” and “fight” on the pitch. “I didn’t see that in the team at many moments. We will face various contexts until June and we have to be able to adapt and solve them if we want to achieve our goals.”

Among the few to stand out in the defeat was Viktor Gyokeres, who scored Arsenal’s only goal in the match from the penalty spot, bringing his personal tally to 18 goals for the season. The forward expressed confidence in the team’s recovery for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against his former club, Sporting, at the Emirates this Wednesday. Arsenal heads into the match with a narrow 1-0 advantage, but will need to show a different attitude to ensure their passage to the semi-finals, where they could face giants such as Paris Saint-Germain or Liverpool.

Gyokeres stated: “We have many important games ahead of us and we need to embrace that and enjoy playing these matches. It’s a fantastic game to have in just a few days; now we just need to recover, put this behind us, and deliver a very good performance on Wednesday.”

This is a decisive moment for Arsenal: either the team responds with intensity and regains its lost confidence, or the dream of the title and European glory could quickly fade away. Mikel Arteta warned: the excuses are over, it’s time to fight and show who’s in charge in the Premier League and the Champions League!
