The summer transfer window promises to be bustling for Manchester United, especially with the imminent departure of Casemiro, who has already announced that he will leave the club at the end of the current season. The need to reinforce the midfield is urgent, particularly following the disappointment that has been Manuel Ugarte. The situation requires the Red Devils to seek two world-class players to cover the gaps left by these exits.
However, the search for talent in the market is not limited to the already mentioned names, such as Carlos Baleba from Brighton, Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, and Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. The latter, however, seems inclined toward a transfer to rival Manchester City, while Baleba is still struggling to establish himself in the Premier League. The pressure to find a suitable replacement is palpable, and the good news for United comes from an unexpected source: Morten Hjulmand, the captain of Sporting CP.
Hjulmand, a player who has been a long-term target of Manchester United, may finally be on his way to Old Trafford next summer. Sporting, which is already preparing for his departure, is in search of a worthy replacement. The club’s president, Frederico Varandas, has reached a verbal agreement with the Dane, allowing for his exit should a €50 million offer be presented.
“Signed in the summer of 2023, 26-year-old Morten Hjulmand has proven from day one to be a winning bet, a key player with the potential for a higher level. Therefore, it has become clear that Sporting would have great difficulties in keeping him,” sources close to the club state. Although they managed to keep him for another season, his departure in July seems inevitable. The initial agreement guaranteed his presence until the end of the 2025/2026 season but opened the door for negotiations, with no promises of a fixed price sale.
The question now is whether Manchester United will revive their interest in Hjulmand. Atlético de Madrid was close to securing his services in January, while former United manager Ruben Amorim wanted him back, a proposal that was rejected by INEOS. The anticipation surrounding the new transfer window is high, and with the arrival of a new manager, the final decision regarding signings could be crucial.
The confirmation that Hjulmand may be on his way to Manchester United could spark a wave of excitement among fans, but it will be interesting to see how the negotiations unfold and whether Sporting can keep their star for a longer period. The summer promises to be electrifying for the Manchester club!
