Radek Vitek surprised many by revealing his intention to leave Manchester United during this transfer window in an interview that stirred the transfer market. The Czech goalkeeper, who has been with the club since 2020, admitted he is open to a move, whether on loan or a permanent transfer.
Vitek, who has yet to make an official appearance for the Red Devils' first team, recently participated in a pre-season match against Wrexham, where he came on in the second half and managed to keep a clean sheet. However, at the end of the match, he did not hide his desire to seek new opportunities: “I feel good and ready to start again. One day I hope to be number one. Right now I’m still here, but we’ll see, I hope to leave. I hope there’s interest. You’ll know when things are more concrete.”
The goalkeeper has been through several loan spells since arriving at Old Trafford, having played for clubs like Accrington Stanley, Bristol City, and FC Blau-Weiß Linz in Austria. Despite the evident growth in recent years, his situation at United is complicated. Senne Lammens, the Belgian international, is currently the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, while the recent signings of Karl Darlow and the renewal of Tom Heaton further reduce Vitek's chances in the first team.
When asked about the type of exit he prefers, Vitek was clear: “I’m ready for either option, to be honest. It depends on what the club wants, it depends on the options, we’ll see. There is interest on the table, but we hope to find the best solution. My thinking is the same, I want to play every week, that’s the goal for next season. I hope we’ll know soon where it will be.”
The goalkeeper expressed confidence regarding the next stage of his career and the maturity he has gained: “I think I have grown in the last two and a half years, with the loans. I have grown as a person and also on the field. I feel ready for a loan before the start of the season.”
This public statement puts pressure on Manchester United to find a solution that satisfies both parties. For Vitek, the priority is to secure regular playing minutes, something he is unlikely to achieve at Old Trafford next season. The confirmation of interest from other teams opens the door to a significant change in the Red Devils' squad during the summer transfer market.
