Robert Lewandowski's debut in Major League Soccer has been postponed due to dangerous air quality in Chicago. The match between Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps, originally scheduled for this Friday, was suspended because of smoke from wildfires in Canada that has reached the American city, making conditions impractical for playing soccer.

According to journalist Tom Bogert, “today's match between Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps has been postponed due to unsafe air quality. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has spread to Chicago, putting Robert Lewandowski's debut in MLS on hold.” This decision has caused frustration among fans who were eagerly waiting to see the Polish forward in action for the first time in the North American league.

On social media, followers expressed their outrage and disappointment. One fan commented: “The Fire literally was scheduled to play in these conditions, come on!”, while another lamented: “This was supposed to be my first Fire game. I only bought tickets to see Bob in his MLS debut. He made me a Chicago Fire fan and now this happens.” There were also those who joked about the situation, saying: “The Fire is being extinguished by the smoke.” Despite the criticism, many acknowledged that the decision was difficult but correct, given the health risk involved.

Lewandowski is one of the most prolific forwards of his generation, with a brilliant career that spans over 20 years. He began his professional journey in Poland, made a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund, where he won two Bundesliga titles and reached the Champions League final in 2013, and then peaked at Bayern Munich. With the Bavarians, Lewandowski won eight consecutive championships, the Champions League in 2019-20, the FIFA Club World Cup, and set the Bundesliga record with 41 goals in a single season. In 2022, he moved to Barcelona, where he won La Liga and the Pichichi Trophy.

In addition to his club success, Lewandowski is an indispensable figure in the Polish national team, being the all-time top scorer and the player with the most caps in its history, having led the country in several finals of the European Championship and the World Cup. Individually, the Pole has amassed numerous awards, including the FIFA World Player of the Year title in 2020 and 2021, several European Golden Shoes, and a career with over 700 goals for club and country.
