The big news that all golf fans have been waiting for has finally arrived: Phil Mickelson, the legendary six-time major champion, is back at LIV Golf! After a significant absence due to family health issues, the golf icon will make his highly anticipated debut in the 2026 season during the inaugural event in Steyn City, South Africa. This is a vibrant comeback that promises to shake up the golf scene in the coming days.

The HyFlyers GC, the team of which Mickelson is a part, confirmed his participation through social media, although the player himself has yet to officially comment on his return. Mickelson’s absence from the first four stops of LIV Golf — held in Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore — left many fans concerned, but now everyone can breathe a sigh of relief.

“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV events as Amy and I need to be present for a family health matter,” Mickelson revealed last month. His words reflect the determination and urgency he feels to return to the course. “I can’t wait to compete again and I’m looking forward to reuniting with my teammates as soon as possible.”

With his last competitive appearance dating back to the end of the 2025 season in August, the anticipation surrounding his return to competition is palpable. During his absence, Wade Ormsby and Ollie Schneiderjans were tasked with filling the gaps left by Mickelson, but now the 55-year-old veteran is ready to reclaim his role in the HyFlyers GC.

The return of Mickelson could not be more timely, as the Masters approaches rapidly. The iconic tournament in Augusta, which begins on April 9, marks Mickelson’s 34th appearance, making him a familiar face at the event over more than three decades. Since his professional debut at the Masters in 1993, he has only missed the competition twice: first for failing to qualify in 1994 and second in 2022, following controversies related to his move to LIV Golf.

Last year was a rollercoaster for Mickelson, who participated in 12 LIV Golf events and achieved three top-ten finishes. However, his performance in the majors was less consistent, with a subpar showing in three of the four tournaments, culminating in a modest 56th place at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

With the adrenaline of competition once again within reach and preparations for the Masters in full swing, Phil Mickelson is determined to reclaim his place among golf’s greats. The golf world is eagerly awaiting this return, which could very well mark the beginning of a new era for one of the sport’s greatest players.
