In the latest twist in the life of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, the golf icon found himself involved in a car accident that raises serious questions about his health and mental state. On Friday, March 27, Woods was arrested in West Palm Beach, Florida, after his Land Rover collided with a pickup truck and overturned. The incident, which left the athlete uninjured, resulted in charges of driving under the influence, refusal to submit to urine testing, and property damage.

Christine Weiss, spokesperson for the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that although Woods was not injured, Florida law requires that those arrested for DUI spend at least eight hours in jail before they can request bail. After fulfilling this requirement, the golfer was released, and footage of his exit from jail in an Escalade quickly went viral on social media.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek provided further details about the incident, revealing that Woods was driving at high speed at the time of the accident. Despite showing signs of impairment, the breathalyzer test did not indicate the presence of alcohol. “At the Sheriff’s Office and even at the scene of the accident, we did not suspect that alcohol was involved,” Budensiek said, as reported. “Mr. Woods took the breathalyzer test and registered 0.00, but when we requested a urine test, he refused. Therefore, he was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a legal test.”

Fortunately, there were no injuries in the accident, and both Woods and the occupants of the other vehicle emerged unscathed. “This was just a few hours ago, so I’m providing the information I have at this moment,” the sheriff added.

With the expectation of returning to competition, fans are asking: will Tiger Woods be present at the 2026 Masters? Although there is still no confirmation, he remains registered for the event and is working to regain the necessary physical condition for a triumphant return. The week prior, Woods participated in the second final of the TGL, his first competitive appearance since 2025. However, many argue that this participation does not fully reflect his abilities, as the format is not demanding for a player of his stature.

During a press conference, Woods spoke about his health and the recovery challenges he has faced. “I’ve been trying for a while,” he said on Tuesday. “I’ve had some serious injuries in recent years that I’ve had to overcome, and that takes time.” The 15-time major champion continued: “But I keep trying. I want to play. I love the tournament. I’ve loved being there since I was 19. It has meant a lot to me and my family over the years. I will be there anyway with The Loop that will be there, as well as the Champions Dinner.”

Additionally, Woods is scheduled to open a new nine-hole course in Augusta on April 15. His passion for golf and desire to compete remain strong, but recent difficulties raise questions about the future of his career. Tiger Woods continues to be an iconic figure in the sport, but will the shadows of the past finally leave him in peace?
