Carlos Alcaraz reacts to historic French Open final: praise for Zverev and Cobolli who are making history

The 2026 French Open final has entered tennis history, not only for the drama on court but also for the reactions that continue to resonate on social media. Carlos Alcaraz, the young Spanish prodigy and two-time champion at Roland Garros (2024 and 2025), did not remain indifferent to the titanic duel between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli. Despite being sidelined from competition this year due to a wrist injury that has kept him out since April, Alcaraz did not hesitate to publicly congratulate the protagonists of the match that captivated the world.

German player Zverev, the second seed, secured his first Grand Slam victory by defeating Cobolli, the 10th seed, in an epic match lasting four hours and 16 minutes, with the final score set at 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1. This achievement represents redemption for Zverev, who, after losing three major finals, has finally lifted the champion’s trophy. On the other side, Cobolli was competing in his first Grand Slam final and, despite the defeat, is already establishing himself as a young prospect to watch closely.

On social media, Alcaraz did not hold back on compliments: “Congratulations, Sascha, on the title! You deserved it!” he wrote, in a clear display of respect for the opponent who defeated him at Roland Garros in his first title. He did not stop there and also left encouraging words for the Italian: “Congratulations, Flavio, on your first Grand Slam final! I am sure many more will come!”

Record that Alcaraz, 22, has already won seven Grand Slam titles, the most recent being at the 2026 Australian Open, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in a memorable final. However, his season is being marked by this forced break, which will also prevent him from participating in the entire grass season, a heavy blow for the Spaniard who has been one of the biggest sensations in world tennis.

The statements from the finalists after the match were equally emotional. Zverev, at 28, spoke with emotion about his connection to Court Philippe-Chatrier: “This court is special to me in so many ways. I had the best moments of my life here, but also the worst. I was in that corner four years ago with seven torn ligaments and two broken bones. I lost a Grand Slam final here two years ago, but now there is finally a happy ending.”

Cobolli, for his part, displayed impressive maturity: “I started playing tennis very young and never expected a result like this. Now that I am here, I want to do something special because for me, this is not over. It’s just the beginning.”

This chapter of Roland Garros leaves us not only with Zverev’s crowning, finally breaking the drought, but also with the promise of a bright future for Cobolli, and the confirmation of Alcaraz’s invaluable worth on the circuit, even in his absence. The world of tennis is in turmoil and promises strong emotions for the upcoming seasons.
