The Miami Open is heating up, and the fourth day brought intense emotions as some of the biggest stars of the women’s circuit faced various challenges. Although most advanced, the players had to show grit in critical moments. Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina were just a few of the protagonists who made their mark on this exciting journey.
Coco Gauff had to fight against the tide to overcome Elisabetta Cocciaretto, winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The young American got off to a rough start, losing the first set, and found herself down a break in the deciding set. However, her resilience shone through adversity as she managed to win four consecutive games to secure the victory. Despite finishing with 11 double faults and only 31% of points won on her second serve, Gauff proved relentless in the crucial moments. “It was a battle, but I managed to find my rhythm and my confidence when I needed it most,” Gauff said, reflecting on her ability to bounce back. This victory not only keeps her title defense alive but also serves as a reminder that the young player still needs to improve her serving consistency to continue advancing in the tournament.
Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning champion, faced a considerable test against Ann Li, but emerged victorious with a tight 7-6(5), 6-4. The first set was a true battle, with Li leveling at 4-4 after trailing 1-4. However, Sabalenka showcased her experience by dominating the tiebreak and the second part of the match. “It was difficult, but I managed to stay calm and focus on the important points,” commented the world number one, highlighting her ability to solve problems under pressure.
Elena Rybakina, in turn, delivered a solid performance in an all-Kazakh duel against Yulia Putintseva, winning 6-3, 6-3. The player displayed impressive control, particularly on her serve, registering nine aces and winning 75% of points on her first serve. “I was focused and knew I had to seize every opportunity. I’m pleased with how I played,” said Rybakina, who is approaching the next round with high confidence.
Victoria Mboko, one of the tournament’s breakout stars, gave no chances to Anna Blinkova, crushing her with a dominant 6-2, 6-0. The 19-year-old Canadian demonstrated impressive maturity, constantly attacking her opponent’s second serve and showing vastly superior play. “I am evolving with each match and gaining confidence in my game,” said Mboko, already outlining her ambitions for the upcoming rounds.
Belinda Bencic advanced confidently, defeating Zeynep Sonmez 6-3, 6-2, demonstrating a consistent and effective game. The Swiss player controlled the rallies and seized opportunities, remaining composed throughout the match. “It was important to stay focused and not let her get into the game,” Bencic commented, as she continues her pursuit of victory at the Miami Open.
Jasmine Paolini and Elina Svitolina also advanced, with Paolini defeating Taylor Townsend 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 and Svitolina overcoming Emerson Jones 6-2, 6-4. Both showcased their experience and ability to handle pressure, with Svitolina standing out by saving all break points she faced.
With so many stories of resilience and talent on display, the Miami Open continues to be a must-see event. The players are demonstrating that, in the world of tennis, fighting spirit and determination are just as important as technical skill. The next round promises even more action and surprises as the tournament progresses.
