Carlos Alcaraz, the tennis prodigy, has been in the spotlight not only for his impressive feats on the court, but also for the comments from sports legends surrounding him. Recently, Boris Becker, the iconic Grand Slam champion, did not hesitate to proclaim that Alcaraz is “clearly” the best player in the world, while also issuing a warning about his position of dominance.
During the nomination event for the Laureus Awards in Madrid, where both Alcaraz and his rival Jannik Sinner were nominated for the 2026 Sportsman of the Year award, Becker analyzed the trajectory of the two young talents. Both players shone in 2025, sharing two of the four Grand Slam titles between them and meeting in the finals of the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Alcaraz finished last year as the world number one, amassing an impressive collection of eight titles and reaching 11 finals, establishing a colossal lead of 3,150 points over Sinner, who occupies the second position.
The 22-year-old Spaniard not only started 2026 with a perfect record of 12-0, but also won the Australian Open, becoming the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam, before adding the Qatar Open title to his already impressive list of achievements. However, when asked if he sees Alcaraz as unbeatable, Becker was cautious: “Well, no one is unbeatable. We all have good days and bad days.” The words of the former world number one serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of sport.
Becker continued his analysis, stating that while Alcaraz is undoubtedly number one at the moment, the situation can change quickly. “A year ago, you would say the same about Sinner, right? So, things can happen in sport, it’s always very unpredictable. But that’s the beauty of sport, you never know, but at this moment Carlos looks incredible.”
Alcaraz’s maturity, having already accumulated four to five years on the professional circuit, was one of the aspects Becker highlighted as crucial to his recent success. “He understands better what he has to do to win,” stated the German icon.
With the next competition on the horizon, Alcaraz is set to compete in the ATP Masters 1000 at Indian Wells, where he aims to extend his impressive streak of 12 consecutive wins. The young Spanish talent will face the winner of the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Terence Atmane in the second round, having received a bye in the opening round. Expectations are high, as an exciting semi-final clash against the third seed, Novak Djokovic, is anticipated, along with a potential final against the second seed, Jannik Sinner.
As Alcaraz prepares to challenge himself and his competitors at Indian Wells, the tennis world watches with anticipation. What does the future hold for this young phenomenon? The answer may surprise everyone, but one thing is certain: Carlos Alcaraz is determined to leave his indelible mark on the history of the sport.
