Flavio Cobolli, the young prodigy of Italian tennis, is on his way to what many consider the “tennis paradise,” Indian Wells, following an impressive victory at the ATP 500 in Acapulco. The Tuscan-born athlete, who is carving out his space on the professional circuit, spoke openly about his expectations and challenges in this new phase during the Media Day of the prestigious tournament.

Cobolli, who has not yet had the opportunity to compete at Indian Wells in full health, seems determined to change that. “It’s called Tennis Paradise because the view and the scenery are indescribable. However, I heard Sascha say that, for him, this tournament has never been a ‘tennis paradise.’ That resonates with me because I also have never played here at my best,” confessed the young player, who is hopeful of leveraging the confidence gained in Mexico. “This year, they changed the balls, and they are the same ones I used in Acapulco. I feel good and calm. The courts are slow, which I quite like,” he added, revealing his familiarity with the playing conditions.

In his preparation, Cobolli was accompanied by compatriot Lorenzo Musetti, one of the rising names in Italian tennis. “Training with Lorenzo is always a privilege. We spend a lot of time together. We just played PlayStation before coming here for the interviews, and we had a lot of fun. When we’re on the court, each one focuses on themselves and does their best,” he explained. He highlights that, although there is camaraderie between them, healthy competition is essential for the development of both.

Cobolli also acknowledges that his journey is still in progress. “There are always little details to improve. I’m at a point where I still have a lot to evolve, and I feel that during training. We’re working well, and it’s crucial that I continue to listen to the people around me,” he stated. The tennis player, currently ranked 15th, is aware of the importance of achieving results in more prestigious tournaments. “What matters most to me is finding results in the big tournaments, and I hope that starts here at Indian Wells,” he concluded.

With the determination and ambition that characterize him, Flavio Cobolli promises to be a force to be reckoned with in this Masters 1000, where he will seek not only victory but also a greater assertion on the world tennis stage.
