Jannik Sinner continues to assert his dominance in the global tennis scene, extending his streak to 55 consecutive victories against opponents outside the top 50, an impressive record that dates back to the 2023 US Open. The latest addition to this incredible series came in the third round of the prestigious Mutua Madrid Open, where the South Tyrolean talent dominated Danish player Elmer Moller, who had enjoyed a remarkable run with four victories starting from the qualifiers.

Sinner, the world number 1, has thus secured his place in the round of 16 of the Spanish Masters 1000 for the third time in his career, following appearances in 2022 and 2024. His goal is clear: to surpass the quarter-final stage, which has been his limit in this tournament so far, and to finally aim for a semi-final or even a final, which he has yet to achieve in his Madrid career.

The match featured moments of resistance from Moller, who did not give up his serve without a fight, but in the decisive moments, Sinner demonstrated superior mental and technical solidity, extending his lead with four consecutive games from 1-1 to 5-1 in the first set. However, the match was interrupted at 5-2 due to a physical issue for the Dane, who requested medical treatment for abdominal discomfort and pain that inevitably affected his performance at the end of the set.

Upon returning to the court, Sinner quickly closed the first set with a score of 6-2. In the second set, the 24-year-old from San Candido maintained control of the match, breaking Moller’s serve at the first opportunity in the sixth game and managing the final service games without any issues to finish the match with a clear 6-3.

The men’s tournament also saw a comeback from Tomas Martin Etcheverry, who defeated qualifier Dino Prizmic, who had caused a surprise by beating Ben Shelton. The Argentine won with a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, securing his place in the next round.

In the women’s circuit, fifth seed Jessica Pegula was decisively eliminated by Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, losing with a score of 6-1, 6-4, a result that shook up the draw and opened new possibilities for her opponents.

The Mutua Madrid Open thus confirms itself as a heated battleground, where Sinner emerges as one of the most formidable contenders, ready to write new chapters in his career and challenge the heights of world tennis with the determination that characterizes him.
