Jannik Sinner, the Italian tennis prodigy, continues to make history at the Miami Open, following a commanding victory over Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals that left everyone talking. At just 24 years old and currently ranked as the world number 2, Sinner not only advanced to the semi-finals, but also broke records that had long seemed unbreakable.
After a challenging match in the previous round, where he had to fight to win against Alex Michelsen 7-5, 7-6(4), Sinner was relentless against the 19th seed, Tiafoe. In what can be described as a true stroll, Sinner conceded no more than four games, wrapping up the match in just 71 minutes with a resounding 6-2, 6-2.
“Feeling that starting the match is very important. When you begin with a break of serve, it gives you a bit more confidence,” Sinner commented in an interview with Tennis TV right after the victory. He added, “At the same time, they can be very aggressive. I try to stay as compact as possible with my strokes, as well as mentally. There can be highs and lows on both sides. I try to stay very calm, taking advantage of the opportunities I have. Today, that was the key.”
This triumph was not just another victory; Sinner extended his personal record to 30 consecutive sets won in Masters tournaments, easily surpassing the previous record of Novak Djokovic of 24 sets. This impressive feat includes his victories at the Paris Masters in November and at Indian Wells last month, where he also did not lose a single set.
But Sinner’s achievements do not stop here. With this victory, he became the first man in the history of the Miami Open, which began in 1985, to reach the semifinals four times in his first five appearances. Despite being forced to withdraw from the quarter-finals in 2022, Sinner has already been crowned champion in 2024 and was the runner-up in 2021 and 2023, having missed the 2025 edition due to a three-month doping suspension.
Additionally, Sinner made history as the first man to achieve 14 consecutive wins in the “Sunshine Double” without losing a set. This year, he already has six wins at Indian Wells and four in Miami — and the count does not stop here. The expectations are now high for his semifinal, where he will face the third seed, Alexander Zverev, or the 18th seed, Francisco Cerundolo.
If Sinner wins the title in Miami, he will become the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to achieve the Sunshine Double. The tennis world is watching with anticipation to see what this young talent can still achieve.
