Daniil Medvedev, one of the main protagonists on the tennis circuit, came close to winning the prestigious Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells, being defeated in the final by Jannik Sinner. The pressure of the match culminated in two decisive tie-breaks, where Sinner displayed impressive composure, thwarting the Russian’s plans. Despite the disappointment of not lifting the trophy, Medvedev made it clear that his performance in the tournament reaffirms him as a real threat to the best tennis players in the world.

In a press conference filled with insights, Medvedev expressed: “It was a fantastic tournament for me. I played at a very high level, even in the final. I’m a bit disappointed; there were moments when I could have played better. Jannik is extraordinary, and it’s really tough to face him.” He also highlighted the importance of reaching such a stage in the tournament, especially considering his performance the previous year, where he did not have the opportunity to compete against Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz due to a series of early losses.

Medvedev took a determined stance regarding the future, stating: “My goal is not to focus too much on them, but on myself to improve.” He acknowledged the difficulty of overcoming Sinner and Alcaraz, especially in a tournament like Miami, where it is highly likely that one of the two will face him in the decisive stages. “Beating one of them is a goal, but it’s hard. I’ve lost many matches against them, but I know I can be a great tennis player.”

The Russian tennis player did not hold back in praising the young talents, stating that any player can defeat them in a single encounter, citing examples like Jakub Mensik in Doha. He criticized the notion that only he or Novak Djokovic can challenge them, emphasizing the competitiveness of the current circuit. “It’s difficult, and that’s why they have impressive numbers like sixty wins and only five losses by the end of the season.”

Medvedev also reflected on his experiences against the legendary Big 3 of tennis. “Unfortunately, I never played against Roger Federer when he was in the top 10, but it would have been a complicated challenge. Each of them has a different playing style, and that requires distinct tactics.” He mentioned that Rafael Nadal, being left-handed, presents an additional difficulty, which partly explains his tremendous success in Grand Slam tournaments.

Finally, Medvedev analyzed the evolution of Jannik Sinner’s serve, praising the changes the young player has implemented. “I had a small opportunity in the first set and a much bigger chance in the tie-break of the second. However, my margins were limited. Jannik was phenomenal on serve, became difficult to read, and even when we managed to, responding is a complicated task.”

With these statements, Medvedev positions himself not only as a serious competitor but also as a keen observer of the tennis landscape, ready to challenge the best and contribute to the evolution of the sport. The rivalry between him, Sinner, and Alcaraz promises an exciting future for tennis fans.
