Novak Djokovic ironically acknowledges that he may have made a mistake by helping Jannik Sinner improve in tennis. The Italian has been a constant obstacle for the Serbian at Wimbledon, eliminating him in the semifinals of the last two editions of the tournament.

During the 2026 Fanatics Fest, Djokovic recalled the moment after defeating Sinner at Wimbledon 2023, when he confided everything he noticed about Sinner's game: “After beating Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon 2023, I gave him all the information about everything I noticed on court – his weaknesses, his strengths, things he needs to work on.” The Serbian added with a smile: “And then, in the following three years, he beat me at Wimbledon every year. So, maybe I made a mistake, I don’t know.”

Since that time, Sinner has dominated their head-to-head matchups. The two players have faced each other nine times, with the Italian winning seven of those encounters, now leading the head-to-head record 7-5. The most recent meeting at Wimbledon was a clear example of that superiority: Sinner triumphed 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that was practically dominated by the Italian.

At the end of the 2023 match, Djokovic acknowledged his physical and technical inferiority on that day. “I was just half a step behind, basically, on every shot,” he stated at the press conference after the match on July 10. “He was a level or more above me, and I wasn’t sharp enough, nor reactive enough, nor balanced enough to face him. There wasn’t much I could do on court.”

Despite this defeat, Djokovic is not thinking of giving up on Wimbledon anytime soon. The Serbian expressed his desire to compete in the tournament at least one more time: “I would like to play at least one more time, let’s see,” he stated at the same conference.

With seven titles won and nine finals reached at Wimbledon, Djokovic maintains the ambition to achieve something special on that stage. It is worth noting that the Serbian surpassed Roger Federer in the number of singles victories at the tournament, amassing an impressive record of 107 wins and only 14 losses at SW19.
