Serena Williams returns to the singles courts at Wimbledon and promises to be the major phenomenon of the tournament, while Novak Djokovic prepares to pursue what could be his last major moment on the road to a 25th Grand Slam title. The start of the legendary London tournament is shrouded in anticipation, with established stars and young talents ready to write another golden chapter in the history of world tennis.
All attention is focused on the All England Club, where Serena Williams, absent from singles competition since her “goodbye” at the 2022 US Open, once again takes center stage. Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, faces what could be his last opportunity to surpass the Grand Slam title record. Jannik Sinner, the current men’s champion, and young Filipino prospect Alex Eala also enter the scene with renewed ambitions. Greg Rusedski, former British number one, shared his predictions for the major players in this Wimbledon on his podcast.

The return of Serena is generating a frenzy among fans and experts. Rusedski believes that the American will surpass Maya Joint in the opening match, anticipating an unmissable clash against Alex Eala in the second round. “I think Serena will get past Maya Joint in her first match. I also believe that Alex Eala will win her debut, which will set up a showdown between Serena and Eala in the second round, in a Centre Court duel,” said Greg Rusedski in the latest edition of his podcast. The former tennis player also highlighted the presence of Iga Swiatek in this section of the draw, emphasizing the difficulty of her first match: “Iga has Taylor Townsend ahead of her. A left-hander, world number 1 in doubles, is playing against the defending champion. It’s not an easy debut for Iga, especially if the grass is slippery and the ball is skidding. She can serve and volley, uses the slice… Iga has to be ready from the start.”
On the men’s side, the focus naturally falls on Djokovic and Sinner. Rusedski does not hide that he expects a clash between the two in the semifinals, highlighting the Serbian’s experience and resilience. “Novak will be pleased with the draw and his section. I hope there will be a semifinal between Sinner and Djokovic; that’s what everyone is talking about right now,” he said. Reflecting on Djokovic’s performance in Paris, the Briton added: “I was impressed with Novak in Paris. The heat didn’t bother him. Yes, he lost to João Fonseca, who was unstoppable, but we must not forget that Djokovic defeated Sinner in Australia in an epic five-set match. Sinner won every parameter except for the match point. Novak found a way to win. This is the only Grand Slam where he still believes he can win. Don’t write Sinner’s name just yet, because few would have bet that Zverev would win everything in Paris and claim his first major.”
On the women’s side, Rusedski’s bet is on Rybakina, despite the Kazakh’s less stellar moment. “Rybakina was my pick at the beginning of the year to win Wimbledon, but she has been a bit below expectations. The results haven’t come on grass after a brilliant start to the season. Still, I believe she will find her best form and go far. The grass courts at Wimbledon are a bit different; the ball bounces higher and is slower, which could work in her favor. I think she will have a good tournament,” he emphasized.
Another match worth highlighting is the clash between Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper in the first round. Rusedski praised Draper’s recent journey but acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge. “What an opening match this is! Jack reached the semifinals in Eastbourne, won three consecutive matches, had opportunities against Ugo Humbert but couldn’t secure the win. The important thing is that he seems to be in good physical shape, but now the test is a best-of-five sets. Fritz is in great form, he has been playing exceptionally well. It will be a big test for Jack, but after the year he has had, perhaps it’s too much to ask for him to win. In tennis, miracles happen,” concluded the former British number one.
With the Wimbledon draw filled with stars, intense rivalries, and stories of overcoming challenges, this year’s edition promises thrilling emotions. The return of Serena, the ambition of Djokovic and Sinner, the emergence of young talents like Eala, and the balance in both the men’s and women’s draws are explosive ingredients for an unforgettable tournament. In the coming days, not only glory in the most prestigious tournament in the world will be at stake, but also the confirmation of legends and the birth of new idols in world tennis.
