Novak Djokovic once again defied all expectations and secured his place in the Wimbledon fourth round on Friday, defeating Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in a match that shook the central court of the All England Club. Even far from his physical peak, the 37-year-old Serb (not 39, as is sometimes mistakenly referred) remains unstoppable on the hallowed grass of London, where he has already won seven titles and increasingly proves to be a living legend of world tennis.

The clash was anything but straightforward for Djokovic, currently ranked eighth in the ATP rankings and the seventh seed in this tournament. Facing a combative Rinderknech, ranked 28th in the world, the Serb needed four sets and three hours filled with intensity to seal the victory: 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, and 7-6(4). The most tense moment came in the third set when Djokovic showed signs of fatigue, allowing the Frenchman to win decisively. However, the champion rebounded in the following set, taking the match to a tie-break and demonstrating once again why he is considered one of the greatest of all time.

This victory places Djokovic in the Wimbledon fourth round for the sixteenth time in his career, reinforcing his absolute dominance in the London tournament, where he has lifted the trophy in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. At a time when many are questioning his physical condition following knee surgery in June, the Serbian responded emphatically, showing that he is ready to fight not only for another appearance in the final but also for his 25th Grand Slam title.

The victory holds particular significance in a Wimbledon edition marked by several surprises and early eliminations of seeded players. With Rafael Nadal absent and Carlos Alcaraz struggling in the early matches, Djokovic emerges once again as the clear favorite for the title, even as he faces increasingly younger and more motivated opponents. The next obstacle is Roman Safiullin, a Russian who reached the main draw from the qualifying rounds and currently occupies a modest 132nd place in the ATP rankings. However, Safiullin has already proven to be a dangerous opponent, having eliminated higher-ranked players throughout the tournament.

In statements after the match, Djokovic did not hide his relief and satisfaction with the win, but he issued a warning: “It was a tough battle, especially after losing the third set so clearly. Arthur played at a very high level, but I managed to regain my focus and finish the match as I wanted,” said the Serbian, still on Centre Court immediately after the final whistle. Djokovic acknowledged that the conditions at Wimbledon are always demanding, but emphasized that “it's in these moments that experience counts. I'm used to these stages and I always fight for every point.”

The opponent, Arthur Rinderknech, acknowledged the Serbian's superiority but highlighted his own performance: “Playing against Novak here is always special. I gave my best, but he showed why he is one of the greatest,” admitted the Frenchman at the post-match press conference.

With this triumph, Djokovic strengthens his bid for yet another title at Wimbledon and keeps alive the dream of surpassing Margaret Court to definitively isolate himself as the tennis player with the most Grand Slams ever. The coming days will be crucial to determine if the Serbian can maintain his rhythm and overcome any physical limitations. Fans are eagerly awaiting the clash against Safiullin, where Djokovic enters as the clear favorite, but he knows that any slip-up could be fatal in a competition where the margin for error is minimal.

If he manages to overcome the Russian, Djokovic will be just three wins away from another final at Wimbledon and the opportunity to further expand his legacy. The pressure is intense, expectations are sky-high, and the Serbian seems determined not to let the chance slip away to continue making history on the London grass. For now, Wimbledon remains the privileged stage of a champion who refuses to give up and who inspires millions of fans around the world.
