Marcus Rashford can ruin the dream of a Barcelona star.

Marcus Rashford, the prodigy of Manchester United, finds himself at a crossroads that could alter his trajectory in the elite of European football. Following a tumultuous spell under Ruben Amorim, which culminated in a loan to Aston Villa, Rashford was finally sent to FC Barcelona. The move has brought new hope for the English forward, who has so far excelled in La Liga with an impressive tally of 23 goals and assists this season, despite starting most matches from the bench, as a substitute for Raphinha or Lamine Yamal.

However, things may not be as straightforward as they seem. With Amorim’s departure, rumors are beginning to surface that Manchester United could bring Rashford back to Old Trafford after the end of his loan. Nevertheless, both the player and Barcelona appear willing to extend their collaboration beyond the summer of 2026, raising questions about the forward’s future.

Recently, new information may have added an element of uncertainty to this scenario. According to journalist Jan Virgili, player Virgili, who came through Barcelona’s academy and was sold last summer, is making a name for himself with RCD Mallorca in La Liga. The 19-year-old, described as an “excellent dribbler” with an uncanny ability to make a difference in the final third of the pitch, has already accumulated six assists in just 17 matches for the island club.

This rapid rise of Virgili has impressed the hierarchy at Barcelona, leading to questions about the viability of keeping Rashford. The report indicates that, at the moment, the club’s priority is to trigger the €30 million purchase option for the Englishman, although this does not have unanimous support within the institution. The prospect of bringing Virgili back to Camp Nou could be seen as a more attractive alternative, as he represents a more economical option with a lower salary and is still nine years younger than Rashford. Moreover, his connection to La Masia, the club’s renowned academy, adds an emotional value to his potential signing.

These factors are leading Barcelona to reassess their options, putting Rashford’s dream of establishing himself as a star at Camp Nou at risk. What seemed like a bright future for the forward is now surrounded by uncertainties, and the coming months will be crucial in determining whether Rashford can solidify his place in the Catalan team or if he will return to Manchester United, where his career began. The battle for a spot in elite football continues, and Rashford will have to fight not only against opponents on the pitch but also against the strategic decisions of one of the world’s biggest clubs.
