“Mo Salah considers leaving Europe after dramatic defeat in the World Cup.”

The future of Mo Salah promises to shake up the transfer market, after the Egyptian became a free agent and concluded a legendary nine-year spell at Liverpool, where he became the club's third all-time top scorer. The departure of the 34-year-old forward coincides with the drama experienced on Tuesday, when Egypt squandered a 2-0 lead and was eliminated from the World Cup by reigning champions Argentina, thanks to a decisive goal by Enzo Fernández in stoppage time.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a well-known transfer market expert, there are ongoing contacts regarding the next step in Salah's career. After rumors in May suggested a possible move to Fenerbahçe, Romano provided updates on his YouTube channel: “He has the possibility of going to Saudi Arabia because, in Saudi Arabia, they have always wanted Mo Salah. For the past two or three years, Mo Salah has been a primary target. What I understand is that there have also been some calls from MLS to understand the situation of Mo Salah, so MLS could also be a possibility. MLS, Saudi Arabia, we’ll see what Salah decides, but after the World Cup, there will be time for him and his agent Ramy Abbas to decide the future.”

Interest from the Saudi league is not new. Three summers ago, Al-Ittihad even made a £150 million offer for the Egyptian international in a bold attempt to bring him to the Middle East. Now, any interested club can secure Salah without transfer costs, although salary will be a determining factor: the forward earned around £400,000 per week at Liverpool, a figure only within reach of a few clubs worldwide.

This salary requirement drastically reduces the list of potential destinations, but it does not eliminate the appetite of clubs from Saudi Arabia or the United States (MLS) to secure one of the biggest stars in African football. Despite this, Salah may consider that he is still capable of performing at the highest European level and may not be willing to “semi-retire” in less competitive leagues at this stage.

After the disappointment of the World Cup, Salah will take the opportunity to rest and reflect on the next step in his career. His future remains uncertain and is set to be one of the hottest topics in the coming weeks, with fans and clubs closely watching every move of the Egyptian international.
