Alvaro Arbeloa takes the helm at Fulham, succeeding Marco Silva and becoming the new head coach of the London club. The appointment of the former Real Madrid manager marks a significant change at Craven Cottage, following the departure of the Portuguese coach to Benfica after the end of his contractual relationship with Fulham.
The 43-year-old Spaniard has signed a contract valid for three seasons, thus entering a new stage in his career after leaving his role at Real Madrid in May, when he was replaced by José Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabéu. Arbeloa finds a Fulham team focused on the Premier League, ready to embark on a new cycle under his technical leadership.
Arbeloa's selection for the position comes after the former Liverpool and West Ham manager had been without a club since leaving Real Madrid, a role he took on after Xabi Alonso's departure to Chelsea in January. Throughout his playing career, Arbeloa had notable stints in the Premier League, having made 98 appearances for Liverpool and finishing his career on English pitches with West Ham during the 2016/17 season.
In his presentation as the new manager of the Cottagers, Arbeloa expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge: “It is a true honor for me to start this new chapter at Fulham, the oldest club in London. I feel a great responsibility and I am deeply grateful to Mr. [Shahid] Khan and Tony Khan for the trust they have placed in me with Fulham in the Premier League. I am looking forward to feeling the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with the Fulham fans and starting pre-season with the players next week. I am sure we will enjoy an incredible journey together. Come on, Fulham!” Arbeloa said, visibly motivated, after being officially announced as the new manager.
Arbeloa's initial schedule at the helm of Fulham promises great excitement, with the first five matches of the 2026/27 Premier League already set: a home debut against Chelsea on August 24, an away trip to Sunderland on August 30, a home match against Crystal Palace on September 5, a visit to Anfield to face Liverpool on September 12, and finally, a home clash with Manchester United on September 20.
