Sunderland secured an important victory in their pre-season tour of the United States, defeating Wrexham 1-0 at Subaru Park in Philadelphia. The decisive goal was scored by Nordi Mukiele in the 34th minute, following an excellent combination play with Trai Hume and Brian Brobbey, calmly finishing from a tight angle.
Coach Regis Le Bris was pleased to see Robin Roefs, Habib Diarra, and Noah Sadiki back in the starting eleven after extended breaks due to participation in the World Cup. The Black Cats dominated possession and created several goal-scoring opportunities, with Diarra and Romaine Mundle being the main threats in the early minutes of the match. Wrexham thought they had equalized through Nathan Broadhead, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
After the break, Nilson Angulo saw his attempt hit the crossbar, while Trai Hume also came close to scoring. Mukiele's first-half goal proved sufficient to secure the victory, allowing Sunderland to end the afternoon unbeaten.
With this win, the Black Cats are now preparing for a new challenge, facing RC Lens next Saturday, August 8.
